These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner following the mission values and behaviors of Insight Hospital and Medical Center. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care service and kindness toward all patients staff physicians volunteers and guests.

GENERAL SUMMARY: Plans organizes controls and supervises activities in hospital outpatient pharmacy according to hospital policies standards of practice of the profession and State and Federal laws. Recommends innovations in the practice and function of the hospital pharmacy to the Outpatient Pharmacy Manager and carries out mutually agreed upon programs. These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner in accordance with the mission values and behaviors of Insight Chicago Pharmacy. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care service and kindness toward all patients staff physicians volunteers and guests.

DESCRIPTION:
  • Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensures safe appropriate cost effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies procedures and protocols
  • Ensures strict control and accountability for medications dispensed to patients.
  • Ensures compliance with health system policies and procedures that apply to pharmacy services. Ensures compliance with all applicable federal state and local laws rules and regulations.
  • Continuously evaluates the quality of services and/or products provided to the departments customers.
  • Serves as a positive role model by displaying a cooperative professional behavior in interacting with others.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
:

Knowledge:
  • B.S. or PharmD from an ACPEaccredited School of Pharmacy and a current pharmacist license in good standing with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Completion of a 1year pharmacy practice residency specialty residency or fellowship or at least 3 years of pharmacy experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience using computer applications including word processing spreadsheets and pharmacy information systems required.

Skills:
  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy services.
  • Proficient in the use and application of new medications and technology.
  • Leadership administrative human resource and managerial skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively participate on interdisciplinary teams and committees.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Knowledge of pathophysiology interpretation of diagnostic criteria pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutics.
  • Problem solving ability and analytical thinking required.

Abilities:
  • Repetitive use of hand and fingers (e.g. use of a computer keyboard). May require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs. and stooping kneeling or reaching (e.g. to pick up items from the floor to remove and replace items on low and high shelving and to file documents in lower file drawers).
  • Sitting walking or standing for long periods of time 48 hours) is often necessary. Must be able to physically operate the equipment used for the job.
