QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Ability to read write and communicate in English.
Successful completion of all the competencies required for the Unit Service Aide within 3 months of employment.

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/designee assists in providing support services to the team and patients through activities related to cleaning stocking clerical duties transport and onetoone monitoring of patients.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cleaning Duties
1. Performs cleaning duties according to accepted standards
Routinely maintains cleanliness of inuse patient equipmenti.e. vital sign machines telemetry boxes and leads.
Responsible to tag all equipment after patient discharge and deliver to soiled utility room.
Maintains cleanliness and order of patient rooms bathrooms work storage kitchen and common areas on the patient care unit.
Collects soiled linen for laundry and replenishes linen carts with clean bags when indicated.
Stocking
1. Performs duties related to stocking the unit
Demonstrates the ability to monitor use of patient supplies on the unit.
Alerts the Nurse Manager of barriers to maintaining stock on the unit.
Stores supplies and equipment in accordance with Infection Control and Safety Policies.
Distributes daily supplies for direct caregivers (i.e. linen disposable gloves precaution gowns etc.
Clerical Duties
1. Answers the telephone following standard
Identifies self and unit followed with How can I help you.
Transportation
1. Assists in transporting of equipment/supplies
Available to transport specimens to lab and front desk.
Available to transport medications from Pharmacy.
Available to transport equipment or supplies from Central Supply.
2. Assists in transporting of patients
Assists the C.N.A. or Licensed Nurse in transfer of the patient into a wheelchair or onto a stretcher for transportation. The Unit Service Aide may not physically assist the patient in transfer to a wheelchair/stretcher.They may assist only in the securing of the equipment for the C.N.A. or Licensed Nurse.
Physically transports patients via wheelchair or stretcher to Radiology Dialysis or gym.
Patient Related Support Service
1. Assists licensed nurses and C.N.A.s in patient related services
Assists with distribution and removal of meal trays.
Under the direction of the nurse assists in feeding stable patients.
Sets up meal trays for patients by opening containers pouring contents into glasses/bowls as requested by patients.
Assists in the care of a patient at risk for or experiencing compromised cognitive/perceptual patterns.
Assists nursing personnel in identifying patients at risk for falls and implementing the falls prevention measures.
Under the direction of the nurse distributes fresh water to patients.
Makes unoccupied beds.
Assists patients with the operation of equipment in patient rooms (i.e. television telephone).
Assists in answering call lights and completes requests by patients within scope of the Unit Service Aide job description (i.e. obtain more blankets mail letters turn television channel).
Assists in preparing the room for all new admissions.
Communication

Communicates in a positive and respectful manner at all times.
Communicates effectively at all times with the members of the team.
Informs appropriate personnel of all patient requests outside the scope of the Unit Service Aide Job Description.
