Job Description

Part time primary care nurse in busy pediatric hematology oncology and infusion outpatient setting. The staff nurse is a registered nurse who is responsible for assuring competent compassionate individualized nursing care for specific patients and their families in the ambulatory care setting. She / he collaborates with practice leadership members of the patient care team and the patient to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

  • Primary care nurse administering chemotherapy and other infusions to pediatric patient population. Frequent phone triage; assist during interventional procedures monitoring patients during sedation procedures and recovery of same patients post anesthesia.
  • Educational emotional clinical support and education of patient and family members.
  • Participates/contributes in weekly team meetings. Collaborates regularly with inpatient units to ensure continuity of care.

Provides competent compassionate nursing care based on scientific principles and the use of nursing process.

Provides and maintains a therapeutic environment for patients and families.

Communicates the plan of care and other pertinent information to / from other patient care team members.

Provides nursing care appropriate to age group of patients.

Observes reports and documents relevant patient information.

Identifies facilitates and evaluates outcomes of nursing care for an individual patient or group of patients.

Helps define standards of excellence for patient care; participates in improvement of patient care services in a costeffective way.

Participates in and contributes to performance improvement activities.

Collaborates with other professional and nonprofessional personnel in maintaining recognized standards.

Participates in orientation of new permanent and temporary staff members.

  • Appropriately utilizes equipment and supplies.
  • Provides input to the practice leadership regarding practice needs.
  • BLS certification required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills ability to communicate effectively to families all RN team members and multidisciplinary team.
  • PALS certification preferred
  • Chemo certification preferred
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required

  • Graduate from an accredated nursing program required. Bachelors degree strongly prefered.New graduates must have a BSN

  • Must have a minimum of 23 years of oncology nursing experience required pediatric oncology experience preferred.
