The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a licensed nurse who participates in the plan of care to provide competent compassionate and individualized nursing care to patients and their families as developed by a registered nurse or nurse practitioner. The LPN in ID will work on the floor during clinic sessions seeing patients for vaccination dressings and procedures if needed by the provider. They will also support prescription refills. They will assist MAs with flow if necessary.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Patient Care
A. Performs tests procedures and treatments within the LPN scope of practice including immunizations and documentation of immunizations.
B. Assists with any procedure or dressing change performed by providers.
C. If additional vital signs such as orthostatics follow up vital signs are required after check in.
D. Removal of PICC lines
III. Administrative Duties
A. Outpatient Parental Antibiotic Treatment patient care (their own panel of patients less than RN given floor duties)
B. Prescription Line
1. Responsible for retrieving the prescription line information
2. Obtain prescription refill information and complete selected practice refills including appropriate documentation under supervision of the RN/NP/MD.
IV. Resource
A. Licensed nurse acts as a backup to medical assistants only when needed
B. Is a resource to nurses in their work with patients on the floor
C. Assists with primary care and specialty sessions (eg Neurology) when necessary
V. Other
A. Assumes other responsibilities & duties within the realm of the licensed nurse
B. Participates in quality assurance activities of the clinic
C. Works as team member with other members of the nursing staff
D. Participates in relevant continuing education programs
E. Adheres to regulatory requirements for annual training
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ambulatory infectious disease outpatient practice setting.
