Job Description

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • AIX and HPUX Certification or equivalent experience required.
  • Experience with Epic Clinic/Financial systems a plus
  • 5 years I/T experience including Solaris HPUX AIX and Linux RH.
  • Server administration experience in a large networked environment a must.
  • Familiarity with the concepts of ITIL v.3

Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required
  • Strong commitment to customer service
  • Ability to function at a high level in a team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work requirements
  • Above average working knowledge of Operating Systems: latest versioning of HPUX AIX Linux RH and Solaris
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory
  • Experience with EPIC software
  • Experience with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager
  • Experience with HP and IBM rackmountable servers
  • Experience with Network protocols: TCP/IP

General Overview/Summary

The Open Systems Team is responsible for the installation administration and support of all UNIX and Linux based servers located within the Partners Data Center (PHS East or PHS West).

The System Engineer I is responsible for the installation operation administration and maintenance of all Unix based servers as well as a Virtualized environment using VMWare. Evaluates and monitors server operations and backups. Troubleshoots and resolves server problems. Recommends and implements machine modifications or additional equipment to increase system capacities. Analyzes the results of server monitoring and recommends changes to improve performance processing and utilization. Proposes maintains and enforces server policies practices and security procedures. Implement Technology to upkeep the PHS Core Server Build i.e. service packs HP and IBM software drivers etc. Be involved in an on call rotation to support mission critical 24x7 patient care servers. Engineer plays a major role in deep dive analysis as it relates to troubleshooting production related issues.

Performance monitoring technical support and troubleshooting of servers.

Data integrity backups restores and disaster recovery.

Problem analysis and recovery

Technical consultation on projects.
