Job Description
MT/Blood Bank to work independantly in Blood Bank as needed Evenings Nights and weekends.
MTs perform and evaluate complex laboratory tests in various areas of the clinical laboratory. It requires operation and understanding of complex precision instruments and a variety of automated and electronic equipment. MTs work with minimal supervision and have the necessary background to recognize problems be proficient in troubleshooting and problem solving. MTs may be key operators for various instruments aiding the supervisor in training advanced maintenance procedures and troubleshooting. They may assist in developing and modifying procedures and programs to ensure the accuracy of a test. They perform all required Quality Control procedures; document results accurately and follow through appropriately on all outliers. Notifies the supervisor of any unusual or unexpected results and of all existing and/or potential problems of any nature utilizing the appropriate laboratory and hospital documentation forms. They report all critical values to the appropriate person and complete the required documentation. MTs follow all organizational departmental and section policies such as Universal Precautions Fire Safety QA documentation Hazardous Waste etc.MTs assist with orientation of new staff members students residents fellows etc. as directed. MTs assume the duties required for smooth operation of the lab. Baccalaureate Degree in a Science required. Must be CLIA eligible for High Complexity Testing MT(ASCP) or equivalent preferred. Internship or equivalent 35 years in a hospital Laboratory preferred.
