General Overview:

The OHS Academic Medical Center Director (AMC Director) reports directly to the PHS OHS Associate Director. He/she works collaboratively with and is accountable to the PHS Director of Occupational Health Services the PHS Chief of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

The OHS AMC Director engages collaboratively with other OHS Directors/Managers across the PHS OHS system to share foster relationships for the purpose of sharing best practices reducing rework on implementation efforts and ensuring that patients seen across the system have a seamless experience.

Responsibilities:

The AMC Director is responsible for managing the occupational clinics the sites at which he/she is assigned. The AMC Director is responsible for ensuring appropriate staffing at each clinic to ensure the clinic operates efficiently and provides excellent customer service. He/she works collaboratively with the Office Manager to oversee the administrative staff and administrative functions of the clinic. The AMC Director is responsible for ensuring that clinic operations remain within the designated budget and for implementing and overseeing budget initiatives.

The MGH AMC Director is responsible for MGH McLean SRH Boston SRH Cambridge and SRH North End Rehabilitation Center.
The BWH AMC Director is responsible for BWH BWFH and SRH West Roxbury.

The AMC Director is responsible for providing leadership to and management of the clinical staff. This includes: recruiting and selecting clinicians with an appropriate skill set and knowledge base to provide occupational health services in a fast paced high volume clinic; overseeing the orientation and training of clinical staff to ensure that they are current with changes in the clinic and in occupational health practice engaging with staff to provide feedback and coaching in a positive and proactive manner and exemplifying the role of an occupational health professional. In order to execute this role he/she must be knowledgeable regarding OHS clinical guidelines and workflow.

The Director provides expert consultation and/or management for complex cases presented by staff. The AMC Director is responsible for ensuring the clinical staff is current with all licensure professional accreditations and credentialing requirements.

The AMC Director is responsible for the quality of the clinical care and services provided at the sites he/she oversees. The AMC Director is required to on an ongoing basis systematically and comprehensively assess clinical performance of staff and the quality of outcomes the care they provide achieves. He/she should regularly engage in case and chart review and have a systematic approach to performance review that incorporates evaluating the clinical care provided by each clinician. As needed he/she develops a corrective action coaching and monitoring plan to address deficits identified in performance evaluation.

He/she oversees the occupational health program at the sites at which he/she is assigned. This includes developing and maintaining effective collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and individuals and departments that comprise the health and safety infrastructure.

The AMC Director is responsible for participating in appropriate committees at the local sites or designating this participation to an appropriate staff member to promote and develop the occupational health program at the entities for which he/she is responsible.

The AMC Director provides consultation to Human Resources staff site leadership and managers on occupational health matters including the interpretation of regulations and standards potential organization exposure and liability surveillance requirements fitness for duty matters job accommodations and injury and exposure prevention.

The AMC Director is responsible for conducting a systematic ongoing assessment of the occupational health needs at the sites for which he/she is responsible; with a focus on compliance with occupational health related standards and regulations. In addition this assessment should be utilized along with other key parameters such as feedback from key stakeholders to develop program goals and initiatives annually in collaboration with the Associate Director and Director of OHS.

The AMC Director is accountable for achieving program goals implementing program initiatives and ensuring that the sites for which he/she is responsible meet all statutory requirements and guidelines from agencies such as OSHA MDPH and the Joint Commission that relate to occupational health.

The AMC Director is responsible for outcomes related to Workers Compensation at the sites for which he/she is responsible. This requires that the AMC Director foster collaboration between the OHS and WC Division work effectively with Claims and Nurse Case Managers and develops and maintains an effective working relationship with the Workers Compensation Division Manager.

The AMC Director engages in special projects.
The MGH AMC Director oversees the project portfolio for process improvement.
The BWH AMC Director oversees the project portfolio for staff development and training.

The AMC Directors should be proficient with statistical analysis outcome measures and the development and provision of presentations. He/she must have experience with occupational health outcome tracking and reporting. He/she is responsible for disseminating occupational health data and outcomes to key stakeholders at the sites that he/she is overseeing.

Supervisory:

For BWH AMC Director: All Clinic staff at BWH
For MGH AMC Director : All clinic staff at McLean MGH SRH Boston/Cambridge

Fiscal:

Responsible for implementing all budget initiatives for the sites he/she oversees and tracking temporary nursing utilization at those sites. Also responsible for assisting with the identification of possible overages including but not limited to high exposure workers compensation cases increased use of HIV PEP medications or increased clinic volume.

Preferably the AMC Director must be currently licensed as either an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
COHNS certification is preferred. However a currently licensed RN PA or PT will be considered if he/she has extensive occupational health management experience.
The ideal candidate should have at least five eight years experience in occupational health with progressive management and leadership experience preferred.
Ideally occupational experience should have been in a hospital occupational health setting.
