Job Summary:
The Academic Support Professional/Academic Advisor reports to the Director of Project Success who reports to the Associate VP of Student Success and Retention. The Academic Support Professional/Academic Advisor is responsible for providing a variety of services to meet the academic career and personal development needs of program participants consistent with the mission and vision of the program. The Academic Support Professional/Academic Advisor plans and manages caseload advisement career exploration and other program services; facilitates intrusive and probationary advisement practices; conducts assessment activities and writes related reports; fosters decisionmaking intellectual growth selfconfidence leadership skills and responds to student transition academic development and retention; guides coaches and meets regularly with students every semester; assists with the recruitment admissions orientation registration Early Alert process the Summer Transition program; and teaches program seminar(s). Flexibility is required as program services and activities require weekday evening hours and occasional weekends.Job Description:
Provide academic personal and career advisement to firstyear and continuing program participants.
Assist program students in planning a course of study and selecting a major that is consistent with their academic strengths and appropriate to their educational and personal goals.
Provide program students with accurate information regarding educational options degree requirements and academic policies and procedures and program and University resources.
Teach required seminar course(s) for program participants.
Provide appropriate referral and followup for program participants within the University community and external organizations.
Monitor the academic progress of program participants and maintain accurate student records.
Assist with targeted recruitment admissions orientation registration and the Summer Transition Program (STP).
Assist in the development and facilitation of retentionfocused programs for program participants and effectively utilize social networking to engage students.
Participate in staff development opportunities such as workshops professional associations and conferences.
Participate in assessment activities including data collection and interpretation in support of program objectives.
Submit all required reports (i.e. annual report) concerning the assessment of program goals.
Stay current with relevant research and pedagogy for underprepared students/services and contribute to the body of literature.
Serve on University committees/task forces and represent the program at oncampus and community events.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Project Success.
Minimal Qualifications:
Masters degree in Higher Education Counseling or a related field required. Three years of experience in college or university advisement and/or counseling. Experience related to caseload management teaching orientation and registration program event planning and career exploration. An indepth understanding and experience with the educational economic and cultural needs of AfricanAmerican urban students transitioning into college is a must. Exceptional verbal written communication coaching computer proficiency and multitasking skills are needed. Experience in an urban college or university is preferred.
Salary: $55000
