Hearts With A Mission has a great opportunity for a fulltime Independent Living Program (ILP) Skills Trainer in Jackson County. Join our team and make a difference in our community!



POSITION SUMMARY

The Independent Living Program (ILP) Skills Trainer creates provides and coordinates services and activities with assigned DHS clients ages 1423 years of age. The ILP Skills Trainer will provide mentorship skill building and emotional support to clients and their guardian(s) as needed in an effort to increase the clients independent living skills. The ILP Skills Trainer will cultivate positive relationships build independent living skills and help clients move forward towards a safe and healthy lifestyle. Performs assignments with supervision or independently requiring initiative and judgment in conduct of work. All work is performed in compliance with organizational guidelines and policies as well as all applicable laws.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

The ILP Skills Trainer reports directly to the Independent Living Program (ILP) Manager. This is not a supervisory position. This position has an introductory period of three 3 months.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions listed below are not intended to reflect all duties that may be assigned to this position. The organization may augment duties and/or essential functions at its discretion.

  • Deliver and coordinate skills training and support services for youth young adults and their families.
  • Establish rapport by demonstrating and maintaining clear consistent appropriate and therapeutic boundaries.
  • Demonstrate alignment with the philosophy of Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) and Trauma Informed Care (TIC) by utilizing the approaches in interactions with youth and young adults families staff and community partners.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of youth and young adults development and group dynamics by adjusting therapeutic approaches to developmental level and group interactions.
  • Provide transportation of youth and young adults or assistance of transportation for appointments and activities.
  • Provide individual and group skills training and coaching within skill areas including but not limited to: independent living/selfsufficiency wellness education coping skills navigating the medical community and community living.
  • Safely deescalate youth and young adults including in crisis situations by effectively using verbal intervention skills (NonViolent Crisis Intervention).
  • Concisely and thoroughly document all client interactions and group activities as outlined in ILP Statement of Work.
  • Provide timely and accurate documentation to meet billing requirements. Abide by ethical codes mission values and professional standards including confidentiality.
  • Actively utilize reference and follow agency policies procedures and guidelines.
  • Present a positive attitude professional demeanor and demonstrated respect with youth and young adults families staff visitors and community partners.
  • Perform all work tasks in a proper and safe manner per established policies procedures and guidelines to prevent unnecessary injury time loss and agency expense.
  • Comply with all federal state and agency health and safety reporting requirements.
  • Represent HWAM in public settings professionally and respectfully; may include public speaking.
  • Attend trainings and meetings as assigned. May be appointed to committees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of general record keeping practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge and application of stress management and wellness practices.
  • Knowledge of current and relevant cultural and human diversity.
  • Knowledge of Oregon DHS Mandatory Reporting program.
  • Knowledge of the organizations rules regulations procedures Mission Vision and Values.

  • Ability to pass a preemployment DHS Child Welfare background check.
  • Ability to maintain an acceptable driving record reliable transportation and proof of valid auto insurance.
  • Demonstrate dependability reliability and accountability to include punctuality and attendance.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in varied residential and community environments based on assigned caseload. The conditions of a clients home and environment may vary. This position is frequently exposed to loud noises outside weather conditions such as heat cold and humidity. Occasional exposure to chemical solutions and Bloodborne Pathogens (body fluids) may occur. Risk of verbal and physical threats and harm from clients is possible. Travel is expected for required trainings and providing transportation to clients. ILP Skills Trainers will use their own vehicle for transportation of youth and mileage reimbursement is available for this position. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

To perform the job successfully an individual must be able to perform each of the essential job functions satisfactorily. This position involves periods of prolonged sitting and standing and use of computer equipment. This position requires the physical and mental capabilities to read information printed on paper and displayed on computer monitors; hear speak and communicate verbally using the English language; cognitive thinking and mathematical calculation capabilities; manual dexterity to manipulate papers files financial records keyboard 10key mouse and telephone. This position requires walking crouching bending stooping twisting turning balancing climbing steps/stairs regular limb extension pinching grasping moving lifting and carrying objects of 10 or more pounds frequently. Occasional driving required locally and long distance. Specific vision abilities are required to include close vision distance vision and depth perception and operating a motor vehicle. Reasonable accommodations will be made to otherwise qualify individuals with disabilities and known limitations. The ILP Skills Trainer must promote safe working practices; supports an environment of mental and physical wellbeing.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High school diploma AND three 3
    years work experience in Human Service/Mental Health field.

OR

Associates Degree AND one 1 year work experience in Human Service/Mental Health field.

  1. Experience in the principles of human psychology and the ability to demonstrate the application of best practices proficiently.
  2. Valid Oregon drivers license at time of hire.


DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelors Degree in Psychology Social Work or a related field.
  2. Skills training with diverse families and clients specifically youth and young adults.
  3. Understanding of and the ability to apply current best practices in: Lifespan human development specifically child/adolescent development in all domains.
  4. Experience with Trauma Informed Care (TIC) Positive Youth Development Collaborative Problem Solving NonViolent Crisis Intervention and Prudent Parenting.
