Job Description

Skills Required: Requires good verbal and written communication skill. Good interpersonal skills necessary to deal with patients and staff. Work presents potential exposure to communicable disease and hazardous materials. Work requires moderate to heavy lifting of patients and small equipment. Work requires that a majority of time is spent with either walking or standing. BLS certification. Experience performing Accuchecks.

Experience Required: One year of recent nursing assistant experience.

Education Required: 6 months technical training in health care or Completion of a nursing assistant training program or a Nursing student who has completed basic medical/surgical training.

Licensure/Registration/Certification Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) and CardioPulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification preferred C.N.A. certification

Total Beds on Unit: 42

Typical Patient Population (diagnosis) Cardiac Telemetry Post Cath Lab post cardiac intervention pre cardiac surgery medical all beds monitored

RN/Patient Ratio: 67 with partner 45 alone(days and eves) 68 nights with a floating tech

Hospital Orientation: Full week with 1 day computer training

Unit Clinical Orientation: 3 weeks

Support Positions: TNA NA SA Unit Secretary IV Therapy Rapid Response RN

Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or designate functions as a member of the surgical team who assists in providing basic nursing care under the direct supervision of a nurse. Also performs functional assignments defined by the Nurse Manager and which facilitate therapeutic services provided to patients.

Responsibly completes all assigned work while on duty without compromising the quality of work

Always strives to make good use of time; seeks out work that needs to be done

Reports free time to supervisor; assists others as requested

Consistently demonstrates the ability to adapt to changes in the work place

Takes responsibility for self development by requesting additional instruction for improving the performance of duties as needed.

Demonstrates the ability to carefully follow oral and written instructions

Performs all duties in an independent manner with little or no need for direct supervision.

Consistently demonstrates an awareness and concern for the safety property and confidentiality of patients visitors and co workers.

Consistently is on time and ready to work at the start of the schedule shift.

Utilizes patient centered communication to assist in meeting the emotional needs of patients.

Gives appropriate information to patients visitors volunteers and personnel from other departments.

Takes initiative to act independently when appropriate/accepts direction and guidance as needed.

Reports for duty punctually and gives adequate notice of absenteeism or tardiness.

Is flexible and receptive to change.

Accepts constructive criticism and strives to make improvements and to seek continuing education

Complies with policies established for meals breaks dress code and parking.

Defends and preserves the privacy of patients.

Conveys appropriate information to patients families and physicians.

Extends self demonstrates commitment and participates in the continuous quality improvement process.

Strives to improve communication and cooperation throughout the organization.

Interacts effectively with members or the health care team to promote customer service goals.

Communications are clear honest and expressed in a pleasant manner to facilitate shared decisionmaking and foster a learning environment.

Provides feedback and respects the opinions of others while welcoming suggestions and new ideas from others

Treats all customers internal and external in a manner that reflects Union Hospitals ethical principles and values.

Consistently fosters a healing environment by treating all co workers patients family members and physicians with respect and kindness.
