Adjunct Faculty Computer Information Systems (Corrections)
Salary: $5000 $6000 per 5credit Class
Classification: Adjunct Faculty
Reports to: Associate Dean of Corrections Education
This position will be on the Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW) and Mission Creek Corrections Center for Women (MCCCW) campuses.

Olympic Collegeis recruiting an Adjunct Computer Information Systems Faculty member to teach at the Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW) and Mission Creek Corrections Center for Women (MCCCW). Teaching in a correctional education setting is a uniquely rewarding experience that provides meaningful education opportunities for incarcerated individuals.


This role requires inperson instruction as hybrid or online teaching is not available within these facilities. Faculty must be assessed for Department of Corrections (DOC) badging and will pass through daily security checks. Personal cell phones and devices are prohibited inside the facilities and must be stored in designated lockers. Faculty must pass an NCIC background check as a condition of employment.


Teaching in a correctional setting requires adaptability and flexibility as technology and connectivity are limited within the facilities. Canvas and other online learning tools may not be fully available requiring faculty to adjust instructional strategies accordingly.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare and teach a wide range of Information Technology courses including labbased and lecture formats creating engaging teaching and learning environments that facilitate student success in alignment with the college catalog course outlines and departmental guidelines.
  • Develop and deliver curriculum in alignment with Olympic College and Department of Corrections (DOC) requirements.
  • Adapt instructional methods to accommodate limited technology access and ensure student success.
  • Employ a variety of instructional strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and backgrounds.
  • Maintain accurate student records assess student progress and provide timely feedback.
  • Foster a supportive and respectful classroom environment while upholding DOC security protocols.
  • Adapt instructional methods to accommodate limited access to technology and connectivity including the absence of learning management systems such as Canvas.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty administration and DOC staff to support student success.
  • Assist in developing course schedules aligned with facility movement times:
    • Morning:8:30 AM 11:30 AM
    • Afternoon:12:30 PM 3:50 PM
    • Evening:6:20 PM 8:50 PM
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance teaching effectiveness and maintain knowledge of best practices in mathematics instruction.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Information Systems or a related field.
  • Competence and experience in a wide range of information technology areas with expertise in at least one of the following areas: Interactive Web Design Networking Software Development Support Software and Security.
  • Experience teaching in correctional education settings or with justiceimpacted individuals (preferred).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Information Systems or a related field.
  • Successful college teaching experience preferably in a community college or correctional education setting.
  • Experience teaching online and competencybased curriculum development experience.


Successful Applicants Will Possess:

  • Strong mastery of computer information systems content.
  • Ability to design and implement collegelevel curriculum aligned with program requirements.
  • Skill in employing diverse teaching methods to engage students of varying backgrounds including military veterans and those with limited prior education.
  • Flexibility in teaching methods to accommodate limited technology and restricted internet access.
  • Ability to integrate technology including Canvas when permitted under DOC policies.
  • Diligence in maintaining records and discipline standards.
  • Commitment to Olympic Colleges mission diversity and learnerfocused environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships.
  • Professional integrity ethics and sound judgment.

Terms of Employment

Please note that we are unable to sponsor visas for this position. Only candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered.

Faculty members mustsubmitofficial unopened transcripts to the Human Resources department within30 daysof their employment.

This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis.Placement on the faculty salary schedule will becommensuratewith educational background and experience. The salary listed is a range based on per quarter. A collective bargaining agreement exists and this position is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE).Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department.Evening and/or weekend classes instruction at satellite Olympic College campuses and offcampus assignments including travel to clinical sites may be a part of the instructional load.

Adjunct positions at the college are open continuously and reviewed on a quarterbyquarter basis.Individuals who apply to the applicant pool are considered active for a period of 12 months from the application date and may be contacted when vacancies occur.Applying does not guarantee that a position will be available or offered.

Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits upon theirinitialhireAdjunct faculty must work 50 percent of a fulltime load for two consecutive quarters to become eligible.Additionalhours earned at other SBCTC colleges may count towards this requirement.
