Job Description

Job Summary:

The Rollins College Psychology department is seeking a serviceoriented Animal Care Technician to join their team.

  • Ensure the health of animals cleanliness of laboratory/procedure rooms and functionality of equipment (routine maintenance)
  • Maintain a breeding stock of animals and maintain accurate records
  • Provide assistance to students in handling animals
  • Procure (orders and picks up) food and supplies for laboratory animals
  • Transport animals to veterinarian
  • Administer medication to animals
  • Euthanize animals
  • Maintaining accurate records of numbers and types of animals needed by Departments

Minimum
Qualifications & Education:

  • Elementary school education
  • Ability to read write and follow basic instructions
  • Possess avalid drivers license or ability to obtain a Florida drivers license within 30 days of accepting the job and an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least six months of jobrelated experience.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of laboratory practices and procedures in the care of animals
  • Ability to handle and provide care to a variety of laboratory animals
  • Ability to understand and interpret written and oral instructions
  • Ability to maintain records with a high degree of accuracy

Work Schedule:

The Animal Care Technician role is a fulltime12month appointment scheduled to work 28 hours per week.The schedule for this role is:

  • Monday Friday 9:00 am 2:30 pm

*Works holidays overtime afternoons and weekends may be required.

Work Environment:

  • Works oncampus and in a laboratory.
  • Work requires physical strain and with the physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Work requires exposure to noise and odors associated with animals.
