Created in 1993 LAHSA is a joint powers authority of the City and County of Los Angeles. As the lead agency in the HUDfunded Los Angeles Continuum of Care we coordinate and manage over $800 million annually in federal state county and city funds for programs providing shelter housing and services to people experiencing homelessness.

Under the leadership of the Deputy Chief External Relations Officer the Associate Director Government and Community Relations (Associate Director) will partner with the Associate Director Legislative Affairs and Policy to assist the Deputy Chief in managing overall operations of the Government Affairs Department. The Government Affairs Department has distinct responsibilities that impact LAHSAs leadership in overall homeless coordination and planning across the Greater Los Angeles area. One of the roles primary responsibilities is overseeing the team that manages the operational side of the Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count and coordinates closely with LAHSAs Data Analytics team to ensure the Count is successfully completed each year.

This position is charged with building strengthening and expanding LAHSAs relational profile across the Countys 88 cities Councils of Government community organizations and neighborhood boards and councils and homelessness coalitions and respective elected representation. The Associate Director will be a strong and astute communicator and community organizer: it is imperative that the Associate Director understands the importance of strong political and communitybased advocacy and education regarding policies and programs that oversee homelessness operations across the region reflecting on LAHSAs body of work. The Associate Director will work with their team to ensure support for LAHSAs programming across the region. The Associate Director will oversee a unit composed of staff serving as relational deputies of the agency and will be responsible for the continuous training and skill development of the unit.
