Summary
Responsible for performing basic bedside nursing tasks in a given clinical area. Administers medications according to specified physician orders and in conformance with established procedures for Medication Technician.
II. Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. Takes temperature pulse respiration and blood pressure.
2. Feeds and bathes patient combs hair and cuts nails. Provides bedside care.
3. Passes bedpans and collects urine feces and sputum specimens. May assist with treatments and gives enemas.
4. Prepares deceased patient for the morgue with assistance from others.
5. Reports changes in condition of patient to nurses and doctors.
6. Cleans patient units; empties wastebasket and cares for flowers; cleans utility storage.
7. Orients new aides to hospital routine
8. May provide assistance to doctors and nurses in such specific procedures as lumbar punctures bronchoscopes and orthopedic applications. Performs additional duties as assigned.
9. Administers medications as instructed.
III. Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
1. Work requires a high school level of educational development.
2. Requires certification by the Maryland Board of Nursing as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Annual Certification in CPR is required. Registration with the MBON as a Medication Technician also required.
3. Work requires the skills to read and understand instructions add and subtract numbers and make comparisons between numbers and letters.
4. Work requires the ability to understand and respond to simple written or verbal instructions. Incumbents must respond appropriately to instructions questions or requests for information. Work occasionally requires contact with patients and/or visitors which involves courtesy.
IV. Required Physical Mental and Visual Abilities
1. Lifting and/or carrying objects weighing more than 50 pounds.
2. Pushing and/or pulling nonmotorized equipment (e.g. stretchers supply carts mops) weighing over 50 pounds.
3. Stooping and bending.
4. Reaching and grasping objects.
5. Walking and/or standing for extended periods of time.
V. Working Conditions
1. Work requires performing unpleasant diagnostic or patient care duties.
Salary Range: Minimum21.23per hour Maximum0.00per hour.Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
