Job Description

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

Provides protection and control design engineering services for transmission and distribution substations along with technical guidance and support to asset management and capital projects teams. The engineer would need to communicate and work well with multiple discipline teams to ensure project goals are met. He or she would be required to help technicians work through and trouble AC power circuits DC control circuits and relay control logic problems. This position supports Louisiana and Mississippi regions so travel and overnight stay would be requested on a per project basis or as needed.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs a wide variety of detailed engineering analysis project scoping cost estimation specification/procurement of relay equipment and prepare IFA/IFC design packages for construction.
  • Uses engineering/technical principles and best practices to help develop internal and external protection standards configuration management support NERC compliance support and Entergy Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Works collectively with multiple groups across different disciplines to support project needs. These groups consist of project management construction SCADA modelers RTU configuration telecom transport data networking relay settings substation electrical/civil designers planning asset management and thirdparty entities that connect to the Entergy Grid.
  • Applies knowledge of engineering principles in evaluating alternatives making decisions and interpreting/employing applicable electrical codes procedures standards processes and policies.
  • Provides engineering and technical support to Area Substation Supervisors in the groups day to day performance of diagnostic and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Supports activities to comply with applicable industry standards (i.e. NERC SERC) and other utility regulations as required.
  • Assist with storm/emergency restoration efforts as necessary.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering Discipline (typically Electrical Mechanical Civil Chemical and Industrial) from a fouryear accredited institution.
  • Degrees in engineering technology (typically Electrical Mechanical Civil Chemical and Industrial) from a fouryear accredited institution with PE may be considered.
  • Preferred: Electrical Engineering Bachelors Degree.


Minimum Experience:

  • Engineer I: 0 2 years of experience in an engineering discipline.
  • Engineer II: 2 years of experience in an engineering discipline.
  • Engineer III: 4 years of experience in an engineering discipline.
  • Engineer Sr: 6 years of experience in an engineering discipline.
  • Preferred: Protection and controls design SEL Relay Design and Transmission and Distribution Design experience.

  • Required to work safely and follow all Entergy safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize hazards in the workplace and have the ability to mitigate the hazards.
  • Demonstrated acceptance of a diverse and inclusive work environment and customer base.
  • Ability to recognize opportunities for process improvement and have the ability to enact change.
