The culture is based on mutual respect integrity professionalism a commitment to excellence a collaborative spirit and a sense of human kindness particularly as it relates to ageappropriate adolescent development.What Youll doSalem Academy seeks an excellent music teacher who is committed to raising student achievement through an integration of rigorous college preparatory classes with service to the community. The music teacher will be responsible for the following in addition to other duties as assigned by their manager:Working with and for Students:Developing and implementing curriculum aligned with MA Curriculum FrameworksDifferentiating instructionSupport plan and/or colead ServiceLearning projectsAdvising students through daily Connections class (homeroom)Input academic and behavioral data on the school data management systemAnalyze student data and monitor student progress through standardsbased assessmentsOffering extracurricular programs in music (e.g. band)Teaching a variety of electives courses for grades 612 such as general music chorus keyboard guitar and band or strings instruments (preferably both)Supporting school events such as the City of Salems Haunted Happenings Parade and school musicalsWorking with and for Families:Participate in Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences three times per yearHost quarterly Capstone eventsCommunicate regularly with families about academic and social progressWorking with and for ColleaguesBuild and maintain strong school culture centered on student achievementWork collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the success of the school missionParticipate in weekly professional development sessionsParticipate in weekly grade level team meetingsInputting academic and behavioral data on the school data management systemWho Your Are:You are a skilled educator. You have at least 13 years teaching MusicYou understand the importance of culturally responsive education. You are committed to standards based teaching and learning.You work to build studentcentered learning environments. You respond reactively and proactively to the academic and socialemotional needs of students in their classrooms. You have a proven track record of achieving academic success with a diverse student body.You are values aligned. You are passionate about Salem Academy Charter Schools mission and vision.You bring people together and build community. You recognize the assets and community cultural wealth of all students families and staff. You have experience fostering effective inclusion practices and a safe positive and respectful class and school culture. You are caringcommitted and collaborative with colleagues and families.Qualifications:Belief in the mission and vision of the schoolRelentless commitment to raising the academic achievement of all studentsCommitment to standardsbased teaching and learningAbility to provide a structured orderly safe and respectful environment for studentsExperience working with a diverse student bodyExperience teaching general music chorus piano and either band or strings instruments (preferably both)Excitement about integrating academics with service workInterest in working collaboratively to improve instruction for all studentsEagerness to be part of creating an innovative and rigorous middle and high school programPossession of Massachusetts Teacher Certification or successful completion of the MTELPreference will be given to candidates that meet all of the requirements above and:Are multilingual including in Spanish and English;Have designed and successfully implemented culturally responsive curriculum;Have similar life experiences as our students;Have a Masters PhD or EdD degree;Have National Board Certification;Excitement about integrating academics with service work;Interest in working collaboratively to improve instruction for all studentsSalem Academy Charter School values a school culture that celebrates learning and we believe that the adult culture in the school is the foundation of the schools success.
