This educator will teach 4th and 5thgrade humanities curriculum integrating reading writing social studies and critical thinking. The ideal candidate is passionate about fostering literacy inquiry and historical understanding through engaging and inclusive instruction. This position works as part of a teaching team collaborating closely with a 4th and 5th grade Math Teacher to ensure a cohesive learning experience for students. The teacher will also implement proficiencybased teaching and assessment practices to support personalized learning and ensure all students demonstrate mastery of essential skills and concepts.Key Responsibilities:Develop and implement an integrated humanities curriculum aligned with Vermont state standards and the schools proficiencybased learning framework.Foster a studentcentered inquirybased classroom that encourages critical thinking creativity and a love of reading and writing.Utilize evidencebased literacy instruction aligned with the Science of Reading including explicit and systematic phonics vocabulary development fluency and comprehension strategies.Implement Responsive Classroom practices to support students socialemotional learning build positive classroom community and create a developmentally appropriate learning environment.Use proficiencybased assessment methods including performance tasks rubrics and student selfreflection to measure student growth and guide instruction.Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs ensuring all students can access and engage with the curriculum.Incorporate technology handson learning experiences and interdisciplinary approaches to deepen student understanding.Create a classroom environment that nurtures safety inclusivity respect and a growth mindset.Collaborate with the 4th and 5th grade Math Teacher to support student development across subjects.Work with colleagues support staff and families to ensure student success.Participate in professional development team meetings and schoolwide initiatives focused on proficiencybased teaching and assessment.Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate effectively with students families and administrators.Qualifications:Required:Bachelors degree in Education English History or a related field.Valid Vermont teaching license with appropriate endorsements or eligibility for licensure.Experience teaching upper elementary grades and/or humanities.Preferred:Masters degree in Education or a related field.Experience with proficiencybased assessment and personalized learning approaches.Strong background in literacy instruction and social studies content.Training or experience in the Science of Reading and structured literacy approaches.Experience with Responsive Classroom techniques to foster a positive and engaging learning environment.Familiarity with Vermonts Education Quality Standards (EQS) and Act 77 personalized learning initiatives.Experience working as part of a teaching team to develop interdisciplinary learning experiences and maintain common expectations across classrooms.
