Job Description

Student Voice Project Student Leader Intern SY
Salem High School & Salem Prep High School Internal Candidates Only

Overview

The Student Voice Project offers high school students the opportunity to collaborate with their schools Student Voice Team. Together the team identifies inequities within their schools and utilizes Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) to address these challenges. YPAR is an equitydriven approach to inquiry and social change engaging youth in identifying relevant issues conducting research and advocating for solutions based on evidence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build developmental relationships and trust with fellow Student Leaders to successfully execute the Student Voice Project.
  • Attend weekly meetings during designated program times.
  • Participate actively in YPAR activities with other Student Leaders.
  • Collaborate to drive transformational change within the school community.
  • Manage project deliverables effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Foster and maintain a positive team spirit.
  • Communicate any conflicts or concerns with the Student Voice Mentor promptly.
  • Participate in the Student Voice EndofYear Summit on May 22 at the Peabody Essex Museum (PEM).
  • Optional: Join the districtwide Student Leadership Team which meets monthly and will present at the statewide Student Voice Summit in May.

Qualifications

  • Strong desire to work collaboratively with peers to improve school culture.
  • Demonstrates professionalism patience maturity and dependability.
  • Availability to attend one meeting per week after school during program hours.
  • Excellent oral communication skills.

Stipend

  • Students who complete the program will receive a $350 stipend contingent upon full attendance engagement commitment to the program and completion of deliverables.
