Job Summary
Summary: The Journeyman Plumber performs skilled plumbing work including installation maintenance and repair of plumbing systems in an institutional setting. This role ensures all plumbingrelated systems function efficiently supporting the facilitys overall operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities May Include:
- Install maintain and repair plumbing systems including water supply drainage gas lines and fixtures.
- Diagnose plumbing issues and perform necessary repairs using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Conduct routine inspections of plumbing systems to identify leaks clogs or other issues.
- Read and interpret blueprints specifications and schematics for plumbing layouts.
- Ensure compliance with local state and federal plumbing codes and safety regulations.
- Lead or assist in special plumbing projects and renovations including new construction or building upgrades.
- Install and maintain plumbing systems in labs dormitories kitchens and other specialized areas requiring specific plumbing needs.
- Respond promptly to emergency plumbing issues and provide effective solutions.
- Perform backflow testing and prevention system maintenance as required.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed including materials used project completion times and inspection results.
- Work with campus facilities management to ensure timely preventative maintenance schedules for plumbing systems.
- Oversee and conduct annual plumbing system audits and assessments to identify potential improvements.
- Coordinate with external contractors vendors and inspectors for major plumbing installations or projects.
- Perform pressure tests drain and sewer cleaning and video inspections to assess the condition of underground piping.
- Lead or assist in the installation and maintenance of water conservation systems and sustainable plumbing solutions (e.g. rainwater harvesting lowflow systems).
- Maintain and repair plumbing fixtures in restrooms common areas kitchens and lab environments to ensure functionality and hygiene.
- Assist in the installation and maintenance of campuswide water filtration systems including reverse osmosis systems for specialized labs or medical areas.
- Teach plumbing skills to other members of the maintenance department and assist with training programs for university staff.
- Ensure plumbing systems meet safety standards and comply with university regulations especially in sensitive environments like laboratories medical facilities and dormitories.
Qualifications May Include:
- Valid Journeyman Plumber License issued by the State.
- Plumbing experience in an institutional or commercial setting preferred.
- Proficiency in using plumbing tools equipment and technology.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints schematics and specifications.
- Strong troubleshooting and problemsolving skills.
- Valid drivers license required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to lift heavy objects work in confined spaces and perform physical labor as required.
- Knowledge of backflow prevention and testing procedures.
- Understanding of sustainable plumbing practices and water conservation techniques.
