HULQUMINUM LANGUAGE AND CULTURAL ADVISOR
Under the generalsupervision of the Principal or Delegate provides a range of Hulquminum Speaking Peoples cultural education and Hulquminum languagelearning opportunities to students and adults including teachers administrators andsupport staff and assists in the delivery of services and Indigenous programsin classrooms with groups or individual Indigenous students and peers and inprofessional development settings.
DUTIES:
1. Acts as a Hulquminum Speaking Peoples Knowledge Keeper andHulquminum language advisor.
2. Advises and assists the teachers in the delivery of Indigenous culture andHulquminum language to Indigenous and nonIndigenous students.
3. Advises and assists the teachers in the integration of the HulquminumSpeaking Peoples content and perspective into existing curriculum which mayinclude the gathering of Indigenous resource material organizing chartsbuilding displays speaking on a specific topic arranging a guest speaker.
4. Regularly communicates and consults with Indigenous elders and communitymembers for advice and feedback regarding Indigenous culture and languageinformation and resources.
5. Collaborates with the Indigenous Education department to assist indeveloping Indigenous Culture and language programs and resources and includessharing advice and feedback received from Indigenous elders and communitymembers.
6. Provides advice and learning opportunities to build awareness of andappreciation for Hulquminum Speaking Peoples culture and theHulquminum language to school staff and students.
7. Maintains a daily written record of services provided to Indigenousstudents.
8. Advises teachersand support staff in writing and maintaining records of student. progress with regards to learning about Indigenous culture and Hulquminum language.
This is a unionizedposition with a pay rate as of July 1 2024 of $38.16 per hour.
