POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION:Maintenance General Foreperson
DEPARTMENT:Maintenance
LOCATION:Ottumwa
SALARY CLASS:Exempt
Purpose & Scope: To oversee entire plant floor functioning. Direct supervisors with respect to production volume quality cost and meeting production schedules and delivery dates. Train and develop supervisors to provide management depth and develop team work to attain department objectives. Review daily production schedule to plan work and personnel assignments. Monitor and confirm that machinery equipment and facilities are properly maintained and sanitized. Maintain good employee relations and adherence to labor contract provisions. Prioritize work orders and schedule mechanics and supervisors according to immediacy and necessity of orders. Monitor all production areas to ensure proper functioning of equipment and machinery.
Perform skilled maintenance activities including construction welding brazing soldering plumbing and hydraulics. Adjust repair and replace electrical and electronic equipment. Participate in HAZMAT team to ensure preparedness for emergency situations. Promote and encourage safety in all aspects of maintenance. Arrange for completion of required paperwork such as payroll. Attend meetings as scheduled. Other duties as assigned.

Education:
High School degree or equivalent required or equivalent combination of education and experience
Bachelors Degree in applicable field preferred
Experience: 5 years proven experience in the Beef or Pork industry preferred
Special Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally in English
Excellent conflict resolution skills
Computer knowledge required
Good organizational skills
Ability to work 50 hours
Good attendance and safety records
SelfMotivated/ High Sense of urgency
Previous refrigeration/boiler and related experience preferred
Ability to monitor and operate all refrigeration and steam/boiler areas to ensure proper functioning of equipment and machinery
Strong communication and leadership skills
Heavy lifting required
Bilingual helpful but not required.
Relationships:
Internal: Employees on the production line and plant management
External: USDA and Union
QUALIFICATIONS:
Comments: The schedule for this position is typicallyMon Saturday. Weekend work will be required as scheduled. During Fall Season Saturdays are typically scheduled.
