Job Description

JOB POSTING POSITION/TITLE: Special Education Teacher: Learning Center ASD ProgramPROGRAM/LOCATION:Learning Center Program PembrokeSTART DATE:July 7 2025LENGTH OF POSITION:Eleven month schedule full schoolyear 183 days) and summer hours (six weeks) as assigned.SALARY SCHEDULE:Certified Teacher/Licensed TherapistQUALIFICATIONS:1. Degree in Special Education2. Certification in Moderate or Severe Special Needs3. Autism Endorsement PreferredREPORTS TO: Learning Center Program CoordinatorEVALUATION: Staff evaluation will be implemented as outlined in the North River Collaborative Personnel Policies and Procedures Handbook.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:INSTRUCTIONAL/DIRECT SERVICEEvaluate each students skills and develop an IEP (incorporating curriculum frameworks) based on results.Able to use appropriate developmental scales informal assessments contextual observations and/or standardized tests to evaluate the student in contextually relevant areas.Synthesize evaluation results into a comprehensive written report which reflects strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment.Employ instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for accomplishing stated objectives (functional academic skills augmentative communication skills; multisensory approach).Coordinate with specialists (P.T. O.T. Speech and Language Therapist Teacher of Visually Impaired etc. to provide a comprehensive service delivery program for each child.Complete progress reports annual reviews and threeyear reevaluations and other reports as needed.Consult with other educators and program staff to offer curricular and environmental modifications to support diverse learning abilities.Seek out and facilitate appropriate opportunities for inclusion of students in regular education classroom programs and building activities.Initiate and participate in educationally related community field trips and community vocational experiences with appropriate supervision of all students.Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) assigned to their classroom provide necessary training and evaluation of their job performance.Act as a resource to students parents and staff members who wish to further their understanding of learning needsFrequently confer with parents regarding program goals and to ensure carryover of program between home and school.Complete all required documentation in a timely manner.SUPERVISION AND TRAININGAttend and participate in inservice training programs and staff development meetings as directed.Learn specific teaching strategies or skills for instructing individual students when necessary.DOCUMENTATION EVALUATION AND COMMUNICATIONSubmit all written reports goals and objectives on a timely basis.Keep student attendance progress monitoring and IEPs current and orderly.Provide input for the development of the department program or district budget as requested.Abide by program hours and other policies as outlined in the North RiverCollaborative Personnel Policies and Procedures Handbook.HEALTH AND SAFETYRespond to the needs of individual students so as to enhance theirsocial/emotional health and personal development.Respond to situations in a culturally proficient manner taking into account a whole student perspective.With training is able to apply deescalation strategies if necessary to prevent a student from harming themselves or others.Able to safely lift students up to 50 lbs independently and assist in lifting students up to 100 lbs.Able to physically assist students during activities such as: toileting personal hygiene in/out of adaptive equipment and mechanical lifts and other selfcare tasks as needed.Able to move with reasonable speed and physically assist students during any emergency drills or actual emergencies.Able to safely and effectively participate in restraint training and to safelyperform physical escort and restraints as needed once trained.Able to safely and effectively participate in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training if requested and to safely perform CPR as needed once trained.ETHICALMaintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.Maintain professional attitudes and productive relationships with other staff and administration.Treat parents and other professionals with respect.Respond constructively to feedback and goal oriented coaching.OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED BY THE PROGRAM COORDINATOR
