Position SummaryBancroft School seeks a dynamic and innovative history teacher to join our Upper School faculty (Grades 912 for the 202526 school year. We are looking for a history generalist who can teach across all levels of the Upper School history curriculum balancing content mastery with skills development to foster critical thinking inquiry and civic engagement.The ideal candidate will have experience and interest in teaching Civics and longterm projects that encourage students to explore history through research analysis and collaborative learning. Candidates should be committed to inquirybased learning and placebased experiences encouraging students to connect historical perspectives with contemporary issues.Bancroft faculty are encouraged to bring fresh ideas to the curriculum integrating global perspectives and a strong commitment to Diversity Equity Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB). Experience in curricular design and implementation is expected and facility with educational technology is essential as Upper School students and teachers utilize a range of technological platforms to enhance learning.
Essential Responsibilities - Teach multiple sections and various levels of History this includes all aspects of planning instruction and assessment.
- Consistent and regular communication with students parents colleagues and advisors.
- In addition to classroom teaching the position includes participation in all aspects of school life including coaching club sponsorship and advising.
- Serve as a full community member by attending faculty meetings serving on committees participating in admissions activities covering duties and other routine faculty responsibilities.
- Promote social and emotional growth by serving as an advisor to a group of students.
- Engage in professional development to enhance inclusive teaching and leadership practices. The school offers extensive professional development opportunities to support a racially and ethnically diverse community that is informed selfreflective and characterized by respect and careful listening.
Qualifications - Bachelors degree in History or related education field
- Three to five years teaching experience preferred
- Experience in and enthusiasm for implementing inquirybased learning
- Proven ability to differentiate instruction
- Familiarity with a variety of technological applications
