What Youll Do:

As a Process Safety Engineer youll be at the forefront of our innovation byproviding technical expertise and support for the Process Safety Managementprogram to meet corporate site and regulatory requirements. The Process Safety Engineer will also facilitate and document process safety reviews (PHAs MOCsPSSRs) for modifications unit evaluations and capital projects. Coordinate the review analysisand design of pressure relief and emergency venting systems. Conduct internal audits andinvestigations of process safety incidents.

What Were Looking For:

  • Organize lead and document Process Hazards Analyses (PHAs) and other risk assessments for new and existing processes.
  • Oversee the Management of Change (MOC) process and facilitate MOC reviews.
  • Coordinate the evaluation of pressure safety related hazards recommend pressure relief and emergency venting design solutions and verify implementation. Provide subject matter expertise in pressure safety and emergency relief system design.
  • Support pressure safety policy/procedure development and including PSI documentation.
  • Categorize process safety events and facilitate or participate in incident investigations to determine root causes and correctiveactions.
  • Participate in internal audits at Lubrizol sites to ensure that PSM systems are maintained and followed. Support external audits as required.
  • Collaborate with operations and engineering colleagues on the development and progression of capital projects. Conduct appropriate risk assessments and advise on the potential impacts of regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge in RAGAGEP (especially NFPA API and FM Global) providing interpretation and guidance on requirements and best practices.
  • Support operations and engineering in proactively identifying and resolving process safety concerns.
  • Monitor and support the of corrective actions and recommendations arising from PSM activities (PHA MOC RCA etc.. Followup on action items assigned with timely completion.
  • Provide guidance for the assessment and mitigation of process safety risks associated with materials that are not covered under the PSM regulation.
  • Track and report performance metrics by analyzing data from the sites PSM programs.
  • Participate in corporate/global process safety initiatives including improvement teams and assessments.
  • Maintain and assist in development of systems that ensure compliance with the technologyfocused elements of the PSM standard (PSI PHA MOC PSSR and Mechanical Integrity).
  • Support the implementation of new/revised process safety related procedures and standards.
  • Develop and provide process safety training that will enable colleagues to perform their assigned PSMrelated duties.

Skills That Make a Difference:

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering or technical degree.
  • 2 years of experience in chemical plant operations in a process engineering process design and/or manufacturing role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of chemical process equipment and unit operations.
  • Practical and direct Process Safety program experience.
  • Experience leading facilitating and documenting hazard/risk assessments including Process Hazard Analysis using HAZOP methodology.
  • Strong working knowledge of emergency relief devices and pressure safety design principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to comprehend and use P&IDs material balances equipment and layout drawings and specifications for complex chemical processes.
  • Proven communication and presentation skills; able to effectively promote ideas within the plant and across the organization.

Considered a Plus:

  • Certification or formal training in Process Safety.
  • Experience conducting MOC and PSSR reviews.
  • Experience applying other technology focused PSM elements (PSI etc.
  • Experience designing/specifying emergency relief systems and applying pressure safety regulations (ASME BPVC API520/521.
  • Indepth knowledge of chemical process hazards (toxicity reactivity flammability combustible dusts etc. and preventive measures (area classification functional safety etc.
  • Experience with quantitative risk assessment methods (e.g. LOPA).
  • Formal training in Root Cause Analysis.
  • Formal training in conducting audits.
  • Familiarity with process control and instrumentation systems/concepts.
  • Interpersonal skills (personal rapport and influence) necessary to coach staff and to work with internal groups and outside agencies engaged in process safety.
