DIESEL MECHANIC

RESPONSIBLE TO:Lead Mechanic
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This is a fulltime position and you must be able to perform journeymanlevel work in the diagnosis repair service and maintenance of school buses district vehicles contracted vehicles and other vehicles assigned to the CWRTC. Must be able and willing to work in an outside environment when necessary respond to emergencies outside of normal work hours and work shifts as assigned. This position is a safetysensitive position under the Commercial Drivers License Act and will be included in all Drug & Alcohol testing procedures. Must be willing to work from ladders or under vehicles as needed.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues using appropriate software when applicable for the repair of mechanical electrical engine other defects in buses and other vehicles under the direction of the lead mechanic.
- Overhaul rebuild and repair engines transmissions differentials brake systems and other major components by repair and/or replacement of parts.
- Must work effectively with all transportation staff to be certain that buses and other vehicles are available for the users needs.
- Respond to roadside emergencies; assist with the scene such as securing the area helping with injuries in the case of an accident. Determine what repairs are needed and complete them so that the vehicle is ready.
- Perform quality work keeping the safety of the vehicles utmost.
- Bring to the lead mechanics attention any concerns or recommended changes and additions to vehicle specifications that enhances safety durability maintenance or economy.
- Perform regular vehicle maintenance and safety inspections which may include; changing oil & filters lubricating chassis changing tires inspect & adjust brakes and repairing seats heater motors windows and other components of the vehicle.
- Be diligent in observing and correcting security and cleanliness of buildings equipment parts and tools.
- Drive route bus when backup is required by dispatch or management.
- Maintain district assigned email account; read and respond to messages regularly.
- Accept responsibility for assignments and outcomes.
- Work cooperatively with other staff; maintain positive respectful relationships and engagements.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Threeyears experience in the vehicle maintenance profession. Vocational training may be substituted for experience on a yearforyear basis.
- Possess or be able to obtain within 60 days a valid commercial drivers license Class B minimum with required endorsements. Must have or be able to obtain a Washington State School Bus Authorization within 60 days of hire.
- This position requires a CDL and is considered a safety sensitive position you will be under the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety requirements for drug and alcohol testing. This includes tests with favorable results for preemployment random reasonable suspicion and post incident.
- Verifiable history of ability to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with other staff members supervisors customers and drivers.
- Ability to communicate with staff and the general public in a professional and appropriate manner.
- Possess a set of auto mechanic hand tools and storage cabinet.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and deal with several situations at one time.
- Good physical condition and (capable of lifting 50 lbs..
- Must have excellent attendance.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- ASE School Bus certification or ability to obtain.
- Fulltime experience as a mechanic in a school bus maintenance facility.
- Knowledge of safety standards laws codes rules and regulations related to school buses and other types of school district vehicles.
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of inputting and lookup information.
- Experience in using diagnostic software to troubleshoot and repair vehicles.
