The Mercer University School of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine is seeking a fulltime Infectious Disease faculty for clinical practice at Mercer Medicine. The Department offers participation in Grand Rounds committee work and community service opportunities. The mission of the school is to train physicians and other healthcare professionals in primary care and service to rural and underserved populations in Georgia.
This position is expected to maintain a financially viable clinical practice at Mercer Medicine. This position will also be responsible for supervising and teaching students and residents in clinical training and provide clinical oversight on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
This is a 12month faculty position.
The department faculty is small enough to have a positive supportive and collegial atmosphere. The department faculty consists of clinical Internal Medicine physicians and subspecialists. The department also interfaces and collaborates with the other basic science and clinical departments including Family Medicine OB/GYN Psychiatry Pediatrics and Community Medicine.
Qualifications:
Candidates must:
Hold an M.D. degree and be board certified (or board eligible) in Internal Medicine
Have a Georgia medical license or eligibility for licensure in the State of Georgia
Completed an Infectious Disease Fellowship and be board certified/board eligible in infectious disease
Experience in ambulatory practice setting
Experience in academic medicine environment highly desirable
About the position:
Position includes teaching residents and students in both an inpatient & outpatient setting
Outpatient practice is located within walking distance of a stateofthe art medical center
Inpatient coverage is at AtriumNavicent Health in Macon GA
Stable faculty and leadership with a financially sound organization
Research options available but not required

Duties:
Patient Care:
Develop and maintain faculty ambulatory infectious disease practice
Clinical Care of patients in department
Provide infectious disease consultations inpatient and outpatient for Mercer Medicine faculty patients and other patients as requested by community physicians
Serve as attending for local HIV/infectious disease clinic
Actively participate in Medical Staff and Hospital Committees
Complete all Medical Record documentation requirements as specified in the Medical Staff Rules and Regulations on a concurrent basis
Teaching Duties for Internal Medicine Residency & IM Clerkship
Supervise and instruct Internal Medicine residents family medicine residents and 4th year students on infectious disease rotations
Develop implement accomplish & monitor goals for infectious disease education
Review and update infectious disease curriculum as needed and at least every three years as required by the RRCIM
Provide 6 to 8 core curriculum lectures per year in the area of infectious diseases
Serve as attending or designate an attending for the residents infectious disease elective
Provide mentorship to IM residents interested in infectious disease fellowship training
