Job Description:
Under the general direction of the Coordinator Security Investigations the primary area of focus for this position is the responsibility for reviewing and investigating security incidents that pertain to incidents of violence sexual violence and sexual . Secondarily this position may be required to assist in a wide range of other criminal or complex incidents requiring investigative support as well as the delivery of specialized investigative expertise to Security Services and other College departments assisting with policy development and compliance investigation related liaison with external agencies and management of Security incidents on a 24hour basis within the context of the Security Services mandate of the protection of occupants assets and information of the College.
The Investigator analyses prioritizes coordinates and conducts investigations pertaining to crimes against persons violence sexual violence sexual and other complex or specialized investigations and assigns work related to preliminary investigation requirements.
The incumbent conducts sensitive or specialized internal and external investigations as and prepares investigative reports recommendations and cases for presentation in support of internal processes such as labour relations and student conduct proceedings as well as external criminal and provincial court proceedings. The Investigator is responsible for the collection of evidence the appropriate maintenance of files reports and notes and the production of summaries and reports as necessary and to support testimony in judicial or disciplinary processes.
Required Qualifications:
2 Year Diploma Program Speciality in Law & Security Administration Security Management Program Police Foundations or a related program of study or equivalent training through an accredited police agency;
Graduation from an accredited police college;
General investigative techniques or advanced investigative techniques training from an accredited police college;
Specialized training in sexual sexual violence and/or crimes against persons from an accredited police college;
Interviewing and statement taking training;
Threat / Risk Assessment Training.
The Investigator must have the following special skills to fulfil the requirements of the position:
Advanced knowledge in the conduct of sexual and sexual violence investigations;
Crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills;
Advanced Investigation skills;
Advanced knowledge of law enforcement techniques including police procedures;
Evidence collection procedures;
Case management Interviewing skills;
Communication and public relations skills;
Management and organizational skills;
Report writing/computer literacy;
Client service skills;
Training skills;
Court procedures criminal/civil law;
Human Rights Legislation.
