Role Summary
Established in 1913 The Rep has an unparalleled history as a pioneering Repertory theatre and the launchpad for some of the most exciting talent in UK theatre past and present. Today it is a producing powerhouse with three auditoria The House 816 seats; The Studio 292 seats; The Door 133 seats as well as extensive onsite theatre production facilities: set building scenic art wardrobe props workshop lighting sound/AV stage and stage management.
Producing theatre is the core of The Reps mission and it presents up to ten productions a year of varying sizes across its stages alongside a programme of visiting productions. The theatre also has an impressive creative learning and talent development programme delivering opportunities for thousands of young people every year.
The Paintshop Assistant will assist the Head of Scenic Art to ensure the finishes on all scenic items are to a high standard and are a true realisation of the designers brief.
They will carry out duties to enable the paintshop to operate in a safe and efficient manner and will have a handson role in painting and texturing scenic items following instruction from the Head of Scenic Art. They must be flexible and adaptable sometimes assisting with props scenery or stage management duties.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
To assist the Head of Scenic Art in realising designs to the satisfaction of the Designer providing the highest standards of scenic painting possible by carrying out the following duties:
To work alongside casual freelance and apprentice colleagues in carrying out paintshop duties
To maintain a safe and tidy work area by tidying storing cleaning and maintaining equipment and carrying out other housekeeping duties at the behest of the Head of Scenic Art or Head of Scenic Workshops.
To open Paintshop as requested
To work to design and installation deadlines as per production and technical schedules. This will require some long hours and overnight and weekend working.
To assist in Workshop or Props when called upon to do so.
To attend the relevant production and design meetings in place of the Head Artist if required
To create paint samples and to carry out costing and purchasing if requested.
To keep pace with industry developments and undertake further training and development as required.
Ensure that sustainable methods of delivering on all output are considered developed and implemented where possible
To support and actively participate in the Birmingham Reps apprenticeship schemes
To contribute to excellent communication between departments and teams
GeneralResponsibilities
Adhere to and implement the guidelines procedures and policies of the company as detailed in the staff policies.

The postholder may be required to undertake other reasonably determined duties and responsibilities within the organisation which are appropriate with the level of the role without changing the general character of the post.
The postholder may also be called upon to carry out duties that would not normally be associated with the post on a temporary basis where there is a strong organisational requirement for that to happen. The postholder would be given appropriate training and equipment to carry out any duties of this kind.
Key Relationships
This role forms part of the Paintshop team within the Construction Department which is overseen by the Deputy Director of Production (Scenic Workshops). You will be managed by the Head of Scenic Art.
This structure may change from time to time based on business need but reflects the broad areas of responsibility.

Terms and Conditions
Period of Work: This is a 9 monthsfixed termcontract subject to successful completion of a probationary period of 3months.
Pay: 25779
Hours:39 hours per week (full time). We dont encourage or expect overtime however in the event that over time is worked this may be taken as time off in lieu to be agreed in advance with your line manager.
Holidays: 20 days per year plus bank holidays rising to 25 days plus bank holidays with continuous service. The holiday year runs from 1 September to 31 August each year.
Notice Period:4 weeks/months
Location of Work:Your main place of work will be The Rep in Birmingham but you may be required to work permanently or temporarily at other locations locally.
