Experience and Vision We seek a visionary and collaborative colleague with primary expertise in directing to create innovative curriculum lead a nationally recognized MFA program and sustain a trajectory of creative achievement / research consistent with the expectations of a flagship research university. The ideal candidate will maintain a strong level of professional engagement in directing for live entertainment at a national and /or international level. A record of excellence in teaching mentoring students and experience working with diverse student populations at the graduate and/or undergraduate level is highly desirable along with a demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence and culturally responsive pedagogy. Candidates must be dedicated to building a diverse and equitable learning environment through their teaching creative inquiry and collaboration. Candidates should have expertise in a variety of theatre methodologies and approaches. These might include Stanislavski; Meisner; Michael Chekhov; Lecoq; Theatre of the Oppressed; Bertolt Brecht; Devised Theatre; Peter Brook or others. It is important that the candidate contribute to our commitment to including styles outside the Western canon such as Black and Afrocentric Acting Method Chicano Latin American Indigenous and/or Asian performance practices or other practices/traditions. The successful candidate will serve as Head of the MFA Directing Program . Responsibilities include teaching courses in directing and acting for both undergraduate and graduate students and teaching in other theatre performance areas as qualified. The normal teaching load is 3/3 which includes directing departmental productions. Additional duties include mentoring students assisting in student recruitment supervising graduate teaching assistants and mentoring graduate thesis and undergraduate capstone projects. Service on departmental and university committees is expected as is contribution to curriculum development to prepare students for contemporary directing and performance practice. Tenuretrack faculty are expected to develop and maintain a creative/scholarly profile that aligns with the expectations of tenure and promotion at a tierone research university.
