5th Grade Humanities ELASS

We are seeking a passionate and innovative Fifth Grade Humanities Teacher to join our team for theschool year. As our school transitions to a middle school model serving students in grades 58 the fifthgrade team will work collaboratively to offer an enriching learning experience. The Humanities Teacher will be responsible for teaching English Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies with a strong emphasis on handson projectbased and placebased learning that encourages students to connect their learning to realworld contexts.Key Responsibilities:Curriculum Development & Instruction: Design and implement dynamic handson middle level lessons in English Language Arts and Social Studies that incorporate projectbased and placebased learning strategies. Create opportunities for students to engage with content in meaningful realworld contexts.Student Engagement: Foster a learning environment that encourages exploration inquiry and active participation. Use projectbased learning (PBL) to engage students in solving realworld problems and create connections between academic content and their communities.Assessment & Feedback: Use formative and summative assessments to gauge student progress and provide timely actionable feedback to support growth. Assess both individual and collaborative student work in projectbased contexts.Collaboration: Work closely with the Math and Science teacher to create interdisciplinary learning opportunities that encourage students to make connections across subjects.Classroom Management: Maintain a positive inclusive classroom environment where students feel safe to take risks explore new ideas and collaborate with peers. Promoting restorative practices and utilizing our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports framework.Professional Development: Continuously engage in professional learning to enhance your teaching practice remain current on educational trends middle level philosophy and best practices and align with the schools mission and vision.Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Education English History or a related field Valid teaching certification (or ability to obtain certification). Experience teaching middle school students and the ability to demonstrate content knowledge in ELA and Social Studies for grades 58 (preferred). Passing score on Praxis II preferred. Strong organizational communication and collaboration skills. Enthusiasm for projectbased and placebased learning and a commitment to creating meaningful handson learning experiences. Ability to inspire critical thinking creativity and teamwork among students. Passion for fostering a growth mindset and supporting students in their academic and personal development.Albany Community School is a rural school with about 70 students enrolled in fifth through eighth grade. We have a beautiful 50 acre campus that includes mountain biking trails with a pump track a beaver pond for observations and XC ski trails in the winter.
