GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


Join the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) as a Bridge Inspector 3 in the picturesque city of Cheyenne!

In this pivotal role youll be at the forefront of ensuring safe and efficient transportation for all. With limited supervision youll conduct detailed inspections of bridges overhead sign structures and high mast light poles all while adhering to the Federal Highway Administrations National Bridge Inspection Standards. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Assists in performing routine field inspections fracture critical inspections and special inspections of existing recently constructed and damaged local and stateowned bridges and other related structures including overhead sign structures and high mast towers
  • Assists the lead inspector of a bridge inspection team
  • Prepares for inspections by reviewing structure files identifying structure components and elements and accounting for special considerations
  • Ensures inspections accurately and completely reflect the structural and functional conditions of the structure are thorough timely and completed in accordance with WYDOT policies procedures and the FHWA National Bridge Inspection Standards
  • Prepares detailed structure inspection reports with photos in accordance with the Federal Highway Administrations National Bridge Inspection Standards
  • Uses nondestructive testing methods to assess damage as required
  • Records various measurements and takes photographs for use in load ratings or developing repair strategies
  • Uses computeraided drafting to transform field sketches and measurements into detailed plans for engineering evaluation of the load capacity of the structure and for future reference
  • Prepares other related data for transmission to local government officials
  • Verifies completeness of detailed sketches made by others

Qualifications


PREFERENCES:


Preference will be given to candidates who have completed the National Highway Institute (NHI) Course No. 130055 Safety Inspection of InService Bridges.


KNOWLEDGE:



Education:
Associates Degree (typically in Civil and Environmental Engineering)
Experience:
02 years of progressive work experience (Transportation occupational group and Laboratory) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Field Data Collection and Lab Analysis Technician
OR
Education & ExperienceSubstitution:
24 years of progressive work experience (typically in a Transportation occupational group and Laboratory) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Field Data Collection and Lab Analysis Technician
