Job Description

Project Management 40
  • Assist with or lead technology initiatives both for internal IT teams and the larger university through all five phases of the project management lifecycle (from initiation to closure). This includes developing project charters project plans and schedules identifying and monitoring issues and risks etc.
  • Provide leadership and motivation to project team members throughout the project life cycle and confer with project staff to define work breakdown structures as needed.
  • Ensure that project goals are in line with business objectives and/or university strategic goals.
  • Ensure all project requirements deliverables milestones and required activities are completed in accordance with scope schedule and budget.
  • Organize coordinate and lead the project team scheduling meetings as needed and ensuring the team has access to uptodate meeting notes project documentation and relevant data.
  • Use project management tools to track project performance and schedule adherence.
  • Report project status to key stakeholders including project sponsor leadership etc.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement to enhance service delivery.
  • Ensure that processes and procedures are documented working with training and communications teams to facilitate the development and implementation of training and communication plans as needed.
  • Implement change management strategies with the assistance of communications team training and leadership to ensure enduser adoption and successful implementation.
Supervision 25
  • Provides leadership of the project and change management office to achieve service deliverables.
  • Supervises IT Project Managers and Business Analysts to ensure results through proactive project management.
  • In coordination with the Director of Project and Change Management assigns individual and team responsibilities while monitoring team member performance.
  • Assures project documentation is completed and accurate.
  • Collects analyzes and summarizes information and trends as needed to prepare project status reports.
Change Management 15
  • Oversees project and change management team to ensure enduser adoption and support through coordinated and collaborative change management.
  • Partners with leadership team to identify and prioritize organizational change management initiatives.
  • Works with stakeholders team members and project team members to ensure that change management principles are incorporated into project implementations.
  • Work with the larger IT and campus community as needed to support and facilitate change management.
KITO Compliance 10
  • Assures all applicable compliance requirements are identified and included for all IT projects.
  • Works with project sponsors IT leadership and team members to ensure the timely completion of tasks required by the Kansas Information Technology Office (KITO) for IT projects.
Other Duties 10

  2. Work experience in an environment requiring strong organizational and interpersonal skills as evidenced by application materials.
  3. Experience with KU computer/information systems and services as evidenced by application materials
  4. Work experience that required independent decision making analyzing complex issues and being selfdirected as evidenced by application materials.
  5. Project Management certification (such as PMP Prince2 etc..
  6. Kansas Information Technology Office (KITO) Project Management Methodology certification.


Position Overview
The Associate Director reports directly to the Director of IT Project and Change Management and provides leadership and supervision to ensure the efficient and effective implementation of IT projects as well as change management principles to support users with adoption. The Associate Director supervises a team of project managers and business analysts to ensure the delivery of IT solutions ontime and onbudget. The Associate Director coaches and supports direct reports to help mitigate risks issues and other barriers that could negatively impact project delivery. As an individual contributor and project manager this position is responsible for overseeing the coordination of ITrelated project work that is the result of enterprise initiatives and/or purchases approved through the IT Project Governance and the Technology Procurement Authorization Workflow. The incumbent is responsible for the timely completion of required KITO processes related to IT projects.
