Job Description
Position Summary
The primary purpose of this Registered Nurse position is to provide nursing services with a focus on the care of participants who volunteer for clinical research studies conducted primarily in an ambulatory setting. The RN will provide specialized professional nursing care to research subjects for healthy volunteers and to those with unusual and distinctive medical problems according to federal regulations Good Clinical Practice and local and institutional policies. The RN will support study implementation within the context of care delivery settings such as in the NC TraCSs Clinical and Translational Research Center CTRC and UNC Medical Center as well as provide research on location services at UNC Heath clinics and hospitals and the Schools of UNC . The RN will provide management of clinical and research support activities in order to assure patient safety address clinical needs and assure protocol integrity and accurate data collection. The RN will ensure the integrity of research data while maintaining care that is safe efficient timely effective equitable compassionate and patientcentered. Job Responsibilities: Care requirements will be determined by the scope of study participation the clinical condition of the participant and the requirements and clinical effects of research procedures. Duties will include but are not limited to: providing direct individualized care to both adult and pediatric research participants who are participating in research protocols phlebotomy and IV insertion administering investigational medications monitoring and observation performing ECGs collecting and processing specimens other data collection providing direction and health teaching where applicable in relation to study protocol activities reporting and recording care rendered reporting the participants response to that care and contributing to the CTRCs continuous quality improvement program including the training of nonlicensed research personnel.
Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Must be able to work effectively and diplomatically with a diverse group of individuals maintaining strong communication with patients healthcare personnel staff and others. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Strong attention to detail with the ability to successfully prioritize and manage multiple competing tasks. Flexible collaborative and willing to assist others as needed. Ability to maintain a positive results oriented work environment that contributes to team morale and collaboration. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely. Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support BLS certification.
Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Experience working with human subjects in a clinical research setting. Previous experience as a pediatric nurse. Strong background in healthcare with an emphasis on medicalsurgical nursing. Experience providing direct patient care within UNC Health Hospitals or Clinics. Proficiency with Epic UNC Healths electronic medical record system. Experience in the administration of biotherapy and/or investigational medications. Strong computer skills and have a working knowledge of Word Excel and Outlook. Proficient in intravenous access and/or phlebotomy.
Work Schedule
Monday Thursday: 7:00AM 5:30PM Friday: 7:00AM 1:30PM 30 40 hours/ week dependent on preferences of selected candidate
