Job Description

SUMMARY: The Behavior Specialist provides coordinated assistance to the educational and clinical teams when there is a need for 1:1 support/supervision of a student in a routine or crisis. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Respond to the needs of the staff and students through the application of approved behavioral interventions (including physical restraint) in accordance with the individualized support plans for each student and the philosophical values of the program. Establish and maintain positive and productive relationships with staff and students to facilitate ease of communication and trust during crisis incidents and therapeutic interventions.Establish and maintain appropriate documentation of behavioral interventions through data collection and application of the principles of functional behavioral analysis. Work closely with the School Principal for ongoing coordination of plans and information regarding the needs of individual students and the larger school community. Provide emergency coverage in classrooms during transportation or in a crisis that could exceed typical school hours. And those other assignments are appropriate to the position as determined by the Associate Director. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelors Degree B.A. from a 4year college required in a related field or equivalent experience. At least 3 years experience in a treatment setting. CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS Valid Drivers license/registration and insuranceCompletion of Criminal Records Check/Fingerprinting EVerify OIGCertification in Crisis Intervention CPR First Aid and Universal Precautions preferredThe Spurwink School is both an academic and treatment environment and occasions can arise that require verbal and physical intervention. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hand to finger handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must demonstrate the ability to intervene verbally and/or physically with the behaviors of students ages 5 through 18 to maintain safety in the program.
