Job Description Summary
The successful applicant will be an Advanced Practice Provider interested in working fulltime in the care of patients requiring Palliative Care on our Inpatient Adult Palliative Service. The APP will join a busy and thriving Adult Palliative Care team that includes 7 Faculty 2 Fellows and 9 APPs across Adult Palliative Telehealth Outpatient Adult Palliative Care and Inpatient Adult Palliative Care services including symptom management care coordination with the patients other medical providers ongoing discussions regarding treatment choices and quality of life goals. Our inpatient care team includes doctors nurse practitioners social workers chaplains and nurses.Entity

Job Description
Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Salaried/Exempt
Hours per week: 40
Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: MondayFriday 8:00am 5:00pm. The palliative team rotates weekend call with each individual taking weekend call approximately once every 3 months. The current inpatient clinical expectation is 217 clinical days per year on palliative inpatient service.
Patient Population Focus: Inpatient Adult Palliative Care with possible opportunity for Adult Palliative Telehealth or Adult Palliative Outpatient clinic sessions in the future.
Patient Population Age Range: 18 years death
Required Training and Experience
Required Minimum Training: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.
APRN License Type/Certification:
AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP): Adult pts 13 years to death) stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting.
Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management primary care across the lifespan.
Preferred Training and Experience
Preferred Experience: The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years as a PA ANP or FNP with at least 1 year of experience in a palliative care setting preferred.
Degree of Supervision
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.
Required Licensure Certifications Registrations
All certifications must be current and complete prior to start date:
Basic Life Support (BLS).
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day.
Job Duties:
Provides direct care to patients through the following activities:
Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations
Evaluates and treats on the basis of history physical examination radiological laboratory and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline
Initiates referrals to other health care providers and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician
Documents and bills for direct care provided
Utilizes current research and evidencebased decisionmaking in all clinical practice
Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research
Participates in and supports accreditation compliance and regulatory activities of the organization
Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education
Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members
APRN or PA must maintain licenses certifications CNEs/CMEs etc. as required by applicable policies and state law
Participates in multispecialty Palliative Care team meetings.
Helps educate medical students residents nurses physician colleagues and other hospital staff about Palliative Care principles and practices.
Works with the interdisciplinary team to facilitate clarification of patient and family goals of care and access to appropriate support models of care i.e. hospice rehabilitation ongoing aggressive treatment.
Physical Requirements
Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist kneel climb stairs reach in all directions fully use both hands and legs possess good finger dexterity perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift lower push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs / unassisted exert up to 50 lbs of force lift from 36 to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
Additional Job Description
Masters degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing and two years clinical experience required at least one year of which must have been in a specialty area of care. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner specific to the area of employment required unless a new graduate. New graduates must be certification eligible upon employment and obtain certification within six months of employment. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse and hold official recognition as a Nurse Practitioner from the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required
