Job Description Summary:

Dr. Madhulika Sharmas Post Doctoral Fellow will study the viral LTR promoter using mouse models and cell culture studies. Research areas will include epigenetics transcriptomics and mouse breeding to generate new mouse models. The lab aims to study how to either permanently suppress the HIVLTR promoter or to eliminate the virus promoter as a strategy to combat HIV related kidney diseases. The candidate will be expected to contribute with research staff in the laboratory and develop leadership skills.

Description:

Job Duties Outlined

Research Overview: Design and conduct experiments and interpret data under the mentorship of the Principal Investigator (PI).

  • Work independently and collaboratively on research projects.

  • Assist in mouse breeding strategies genotyping and small animal experimentation.

  • Work on epigenetics of the ViralLTR promoter chromatin immunoprecipitations and genomics

  • Perform molecular and cell biology techniques such asDNAandRNAextractions RTPCR immunoblot analysis immunofluorescence staining and tissue culture.

  • Assist with development of grant proposals including applicable fellowship award applications and NIH R01 applications.

Expectations: The Postdoc will be expected to complete research projects under the guidance of the faculty mentor record and interpret the results of their experiments in an (electronic) laboratory notebook prepare publicationquality manuscripts (including figures and tables) and publish in peerreviewed literature.

  • Read literature articles develop new ideas and assimilate the information into his/her project design/interpretation.

  • Dissemination of studies: Interact on a regular basis with their PI faculty mentor and members of the laboratory to discuss experimental design and interpretation of results.

  • Present research aims and findings at department seminars and at local and national scientific meetings. Write and publish their results as first author in abstracts manuscripts and posters.

Compliance: Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Department understand and follow IACUC and biosafety protocols and attend departmental seminars and regular lab meetings.

Perform other duties assigned by PI and faculty mentor.

Required Qualifications

Education: PhD in cell biology physiology pharmacology pathology or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience: Experience with small animal experimentation genomics tissue/cell culture and molecular biology techniques such as epigenetics DNA and RNA extraction qPCR immunoblot analysis and immunofluorescence staining.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to education experience and training qualifications relative to the requirements of the position and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
