Job Description

Please be aware that the salary provided is for a BAlevel teacher according to our competitive wage scale and does not reflect the entire scale.The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing individualized instruction and support to students with diverse disabilities including learning emotional behavioral and physical challenges. This role is focused on creating and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that ensure students receive the academic social and behavioral support they need in a nurturing and inclusive environment. The Special Education Teacher will work collaboratively with general education teachers emphasizing commitment to educating students in the least restrictive environment. The goal is to foster students independence while offering the necessary tools strategies and accommodations to ensure their academic and personal growth.Responsibilities:Work closely with general education teachers providing specialized support to students with disabilities as appropriate in general education classrooms. This involves planning and delivering lessons that are accessible engaging and inclusive of all students.Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each students specific needs ensuring accommodations and if necessary modifications are incorporated to support student success.Foster a commitment to educating students in the least restrictive environment (LRE) by integrating students into general education settings whenever possible and promoting inclusive practices that support full participation.Provide specialized instruction and support in small groups or oneonone settings to address academic social emotional and behavioral needs.Continuously assess and monitor student progress adjusting teaching methods and accommodations to help students reach their IEP goals and become more independent learners.Create and maintain a positive safe and structured classroom environment that encourages autonomy emotional growth and academic success.Utilize datadriven instructional strategies to adjust teaching plans and provide meaningful feedback to students.Implement behavior management strategies including positive reinforcement and social emotional interventions to enhance students ability to navigate the classroom environment and develop appropriate social skills.Regularly communicate with parents and guardians regarding student progress goals and challenges and offer strategies for supporting student growth at home.Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to review and update students IEPs ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and advocating for students needs.Promote student independence by encouraging selfadvocacy decisionmaking and responsibility for their own learning.Collaborate with other special education professionals counselors and paraprofessionals to create a team approach to support each students unique needs.Stay current with research best practices and legal requirements in special education to continually refine teaching strategies and better support students.Qualifications:Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education (or a related field).Valid state certification in Special Education (or the equivalent).Experience working with students with various disabilities including learning disabilities autism spectrum disorders intellectual disabilities and behavioral challenges.Knowledge of educational laws and regulations including IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and a commitment to providing education in the least restrictive environment.Strong communication organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate in a team setting.Ability to implement and track individualized education plans and adjustments.Patience empathy and a strong desire to support and empower students in achieving their academic and personal goals.Working Conditions:Fulltime position Monday through Friday with occasional evenings for parent meetings or school events.Classroom setting with potential for working in various school environments.Opportunities for professional development and collaboration with colleagues to enhance skills and teaching effectiveness.Reports to:Building Principal Assistant Principal (depending on the building) and Director of Student ServicesBenefits include health employer funded HRA and employee assistance programs dental vision NH Retirement life insurance and longterm disability.
