Public Safety Dispatcher
Public Safety Dispatchers serve a vital role in the Citys services. This is a perfect opportunity to join an outstanding team and take part in a rewarding career. Dispatchers receive emergency and nonemergency calls from the public and public safety personnel by radio and telephone dispatch police fire and EMS in response to the identified need and accurately document all related incidents. Position requires the dispatcher to become certified in emergency medical dispatch (EMD) for calls involving critical illness or injury the ability to work in stressful situations prioritize tasks make decisions quickly and have strict attention to detail. A HS diploma/GED and excellent organizational keyboarding computing customer service skills the ability to adapt to change and the ability to work in a team environment required.
Must be able to work a 12hour shift: 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on a rotating basis including weekends and holidays. Hiring range: $41197or higher (salary commensurate with experience). Hiring process requires successful completion of a City of Staunton employment application written test(s) interview(s) and background investigation including a past free from felony conviction and crime(s) involving moral turpitude.
The hiring process can take approximately four to six weeks and requires successful completion of employment application written test interview background investigation and preemployment drugscreen.Individuals who have previously been disqualified due to the background investigation from a previous process are not eligible for consideration.
IMPORTANT:
- Virginia Certified Dispatchers do NOT have to test but must submit an online application.
- As part of the application process all nonVirginia Certified Dispatcher applicants must take a written test administered by the Staunton Police Department. You will be contacted by the Staunton Police Department after your application has been successfully submitted.
