Job Summary
Plan organize and administer medically prescribed occupational therapy program to restore function relieve pain and prevent disability for patients suffering from injuries; muscle nerve joint and bone diseases; debilitation; and/or loss of ability to perform functional activities. Help patients reach their maximum performance and assume a place in society while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities.
Job Responsibilities
- Review physicians prescription patients condition and medical records to determine occupational therapy treatment required.
- Test and measure patients strength motor development sensory perception functional capacity and respiratory and circulatory efficiency and record findings to identify a therapy diagnosis and develop or revise a comprehensive plan of care.
- Plan and prepare a written evaluation report and treatment program based on evaluation of patient data. Develop and update an appropriate plan of care in collaboration with the patient and family related to the patients age and lifestyle with measurable long and shortterm goals and a defined discharge plan.
- Implement evidencebased treatment protocols including use of manual exercises and treatment equipment application of physical agents and patient assistance to perform various physical activities including functional activities dailyliving activities and the use of assistive and supportive devices and record daily treatments.
- Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages adjust treatment to achieve maximum benefit and prepare written progress reports.
- Evaluate the learning needs and capabilities of patients and family members and initiate patient and family education in a timely manner relative to age length of stay readiness to learn and emotional status.
- Confer with referring physician and other practitioners to obtain additional patient information communicate revisions in treatment program and integrate occupational therapy treatment with other aspects of patients health care.
- Discharge patient when goals have been met or medical necessity no longer warrants skilled therapy intervention and prepare a written discharge report. Establish provisions for continuing services and followup as needed.
- Consistently meet patient care productivity standard as established by department.
- Complete all documentation in a timely manner. Orient instruct direct and supervise work activities of support personnel including occupational therapist assistants rehab aides students and volunteers as appropriate and available. Complete and submit patient billing information.
- Participate in referral development marketing policy and procedure development and performance improvement initiatives related to physical therapy.
- Plan and conduct lectures and training programs on occupational therapy and related topics for coworkers medical staff students and community groups.
- Comply with all applicable policies and procedures including but not limited to all departmental and functional policies and procedures maintain acceptable attendance records arrive for duty punctually and follow dress code. Maintain confidentiality of personal protected information.
- Attend mandatory inservice education programs skills assessment competencies etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
- Minimum: Bachelor of Occupational Therapy
- Preferred: Master of Occupational Therapy
Experience Requirements
- Minimum:None
- Preferred: Two 2 Years Clinical Experience as an Occupational Therapist
License/Certification Requirements
- Basic Life Support (American Heart Association)
- Occupational Therapy license valid in the state of Indiana
