POSITION DESCRIPTION: TEACHER ALL GRADES OR EC

Reports to: Academy Leader or EC Director
Type: Fulltime 10 months
Classification: Salaried Exempt

Position Summary
Responsible for the instruction and care of assigned students creating classroom environments conducive to effective learning while maintaining commitment to NCSs mission vision curriculum standards and instructional excellence.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
  • Design and deliver instructional lessons to meet curriculum requirements adopted by the Board of Directors.
  • Provide planned learning experiences that encourage and motivate students utilize best practices and are developmentally appropriate.
  • Develop and submit current lesson plans (daily and/or weekly) and instructional materials that provide personalized and small group instruction in order to adapt instructional strategies to meet the needs of each student.
  • Select and utilize appropriate instructional material aids and supplies that assist in the development of innovative wellorganized units of study and that are appropriate to the intellectual and instructional level of students from varied backgrounds and who possess a range of mental and emotional maturity.
  • Identify record and reflect on student needs and cooperate with the professional learning community (PLC) to assess plan monitor and implement methods to solve student health attitude and learning issues.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and parents to deliver and manage learning experiences for all students.
  • Cooperatively pursue alternative solutions to ameliorate student learning problems and to enhance academic social and emotional growth opportunities.
  • Use relevant technology to support and enhance instruction.
Classroom Management
  • Establish and maintain high standards of student behavior needed to achieve an optimal learning atmosphere inside and outside of the classroom aligned to NCSs established behavior management plans.
  • Provide a functional and engaging classroom environment conducive for learning and curriculum alignment.
  • Plan and coordinate the work of aides teacher assistants parent volunteers substitutes and other paraprofessionals as appropriate.
Student Assessment
  • Prepare and administer assessments (i.e. formative summative performancebased) in accordance with PLUS and score document and report results.
  • Administer standardized assessments/tests in accordance with state regulations and analyze and utilize results effectively to support positive student growth.
  • Evaluate students academic and social growth using a variety of data sources maintain appropriate and accurate records prepare student reports and communicate with parents regarding their students progress as required by applicable laws and policies.
Operations
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with families colleagues and administrators regarding student learning and progress.
  • Actively participate in the development and monitoring of tasks and programs related to PLUS including department schoolwide and family meetings curriculum mapping exercises lesson plan development training and professional development and other related projects as required.
  • Actively participate in grade level and/or departmentwide PLC(s).
  • Oversee proper stewardship of school resources and management of student records in accordance with FERPA.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and deliver reports in an accurate and timely manner
  • Supervise students in outofclassroom activities during the assigned working day including carpool duty.
  • Share in advisement/sponsorship of student activities and participate in faculty committees as agreed upon.
  • Attend all school functions as required by leadership.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement obtain information for parents when requested promptly respond to all inquiries.
Professional Development
  • Participate in all required teacher inservice trainings and maintain professional competence through engaging in additional learning opportunities and/or selfselected professional growth activities.
  • Seek opportunities to share innovations and best practices with colleagues.
Education Licenses & Experience Requirements
Required
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in education and/or a related field.
  • NC License to teach Exceptional Children (if applying for an EC Teacher position).
Preferred
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid State of North Carolina Professional Educators License.
  • Masters Degree in specified content area (reading math etc. curriculum and instruction or related field.
  • Experience with competencybased instructional and assessment programs.
  • Experience teaching students in assigned grade area.
Knowledge Skills & Attributes
  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal educational laws and regulations.
  • Ability to identify quantify and address student needs and academic performance and programs.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint) PowerSchool and related technology.
  • Able to support and articulate the schools mission goals and objectives in a positive and inspirational manner.
  • Can express ideas clearly and use language to build common understanding.
  • Aligns resources to accomplish key objectives and assigns clear accountability for important objectives. Achieves meaningful accomplishments.
  • Works well across departments focused on modeling and building collaborative relationships.
  • Relates well with all types of people attentive and active listener; patience to hear others out and build rapport with dignity and tact; works collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Able to work effectively in a deadlinedriven multipriority environment; exhibits effective time management skills and appropriate resource management; communicates interferences and delays to manager.
  • Provides accurate results that are wellthoughtout and complete; exhibits high standard for excellence and attention to detail; relays information that is sufficiently detailed and promotes desired result.
  • Uses logical methods to solve problems while producing effective solutions; probes all appropriate resources for solutions; takes initiative to identify and improve programs systems and processes.
Physical Requirements & Work Conditions
This position requires:
  • Normal periods of sitting and standing in a classroom.
  • Extended periods of standing and walking on school campus.
  • Reaching with hands and arms and operating handheld and desktop office equipment on a regular basis.
  • Lifting and/or pushing objects up to 20 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Assisting students with tasks such as eating using the bathroom/changing diapers and moving from one classroom to another (if applying for Lower Academy or EC Teacher position).
  • Assisting other staff members in lifting/moving students up to 100 lbs. on a regular basis (if applying for an EC Teacher position).
  • Normal vision (with or without correction).
  • Normal hearing (with or without correction).
Majority of work is performed inside an office building and temperature controlled. Level of noise is usually typical to a classroom setting.
