Description

The Clinical Informatics Specialist will independently champion and provide guidance for the ongoing development advancement and optimization of clinical systems and technology that impact patient care and business operations throughout the system. The incumbent will lead Informatics work on major projects without direct supervision and will have demonstrated this ability with previous work experience. The Clinical Informatics Specialist is knowledgeable about the clinical processes relevant regulatory mandates and principles of quality/safety improvement in their clinical area of focus. At this level the Specialist will be an expert in applications and workflows within their core focus area. In addition they will participate in Informatics activities in one or more clinical areas outside of their focus area.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead clinical informatics projects to ensure they are planned and implemented using evidencebased practices for planning understanding guiding and delivering responsible and efficient patient care.
  • Serves as an Informatics leader that bridges the gap between people processes clinical knowledge and technology.
  • Document specifications that will translate into development of tools reports and systems that support organizational business needs.
  • Utilize the SBAR process to plan recommendations for informatics solutions.
  • Ensures workflows/process is current with regulatory agencies and best practice standards.
  • Identifies changes to system to comply with policies and procedures in the most efficient manner.
  • Utilize data to drive process workflow and behavior change as it relates to appropriate and efficient use of electronic medical records (EMR) and other clinical technology.
  • Serves as a resource to end users for information systems and technology; effectively communicate system changes workflow process changes downtime procedures etc.
  • Participates in the production and distribution of communications related to technology through active internal networking clinical liaison role newsletters announcements and other technologybased mechanisms to health professionals.
  • Routinely conduct intentional rounding in patient care areas to gain overall knowledge of facility specific workflow patient throughput and challenges with technology solutions.
  • Monitors outcome and evaluates user adoption of current and newly implemented information technology and functionality.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Postgraduate degree in Nursing Informatics Health Informatics or related fields.
  • In lieu of postgraduate degree in Informatics clinical background postgraduate degree and 1 year of Informatics experience is sufficient.
  • Six years of Clinical/Nursing/Health Informatics experience required with direct experience in Epic application(s) required.
  • Completion of EPIC Clinical Content Builder series of classes and certification or badges related to workflows and applications that support their core area of focus.
  • Professional Informatics certification (ANCC HIMSS AMIA 10x10 etc. required within 12 months of hire if Masters degree is not in Informatics.
