Job Description

Introduction

The Fleet Services Section of the Department of Public Works(DPW) performs dispatch functions including scheduling operators andequipment driver training and testing and emergency response operationsacross all DPW departments. Fleet Services also repairs and maintains over4000 pieces of equipment.

Purpose

Ensuring the highest level of service to customers theFleet Operations and Training Manager develops and administers the trainingprogram for over 900 DPW drivers. Additionally the Fleet Operations andTraining Manager coordinates assigns and manages the daily activity of driversand operators to meet the needs of City departments on a 24 hours a day 365day per year basis.

Essential Functions

Fleet Training

  • Develop evaluate and update training programs and curriculum for all Fleet drivers and equipment operators ensuring that training and safety standards are met.
  • Manage and schedule all Fleet training programs maintaining timely and accurate records.
  • Develop special trainings programs for customer organizations in partnership with the Fleet Operations Manager.
  • Manage the Driver Training staff ensuring that they provide valuable technical safe and proper training and operation of equipment.
  • Manage certification testing for the Commercial Driver License (CDL) ThirdParty Examiner Program.

Safety

  • Ensure follow through on crash investigations. Provide documentation prepare correspondence and participate as a subject matter expert in any resulting litigation.
  • Manage new employee driving evaluations and postaccident remedial training program.
  • In conjunction with the Safety staff organize participation in the federally mandated Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.

Dispatch

  • Assist in managing the Fleet Dispatch unit ensuring proper scheduling of equipment and operators to meet the operational needs of DPW and other City departments.
  • Assist with driver and operator seasonal job selections to accommodate critical mission duties including call out lists equipment availability and management and use of the callout system and data.
  • Coordinate seasonal operations to ensure equipment availability; respond to emergency and special requests for seasonal equipment.

Snow and Ice Control

  • Coordinate and ensure readiness of emergency response efforts including snow and ice control operations.
  • Participate as a member of the general ice control and snow plowing callout team. Supervise the contacting and call out of drivers during snow and ice operations.
  • Provide information on the availability and capability of operators equipment and vendors (contractors) as they relate to snow operations.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Bachelors Degree in Business Project Management or Education from an accredited college or university (related experience may be substituted for the degree).
  2. Two years of supervisory experience related to fleet operations and/or training.
  3. Valid State of Wisconsin Drivers License at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
  4. A Valid CDL (Class A) without the Air Brakes restriction within six months of appointment and throughout employment.
  5. Good driving record at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
  6. State of Wisconsin Asbestos Instructor Certification within six months of appointment

Current Salary

The current salary range (Pay Range 1GX) is$85086$98703annuallyand the resident incentive salary range is$87639$101664annually.Appointmentwill be made in accordance with the provisions of the salary ordinance.
