Job Description

About the Role

We are currently seeking applications for apermanent part time 45 hours a fortnight) Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Worker within the Stopping Family Violence program located from our Cairns venue.

Due to professional practice standards set out by the Queensland Government relating to working with perpetrators of domestic and family violence being a male practitioner is a necessary requirement of this role.

The purpose of this role is to facilitate group programs for male perpetrators of domestic and family violence with a strong focus on promoting the safety and wellbeing of their partners families and the broader community. Additionally the role involves providing individual counselling on a needs basis to support personal accountability and behaviour change. A key aspect of this position is also the development and delivery of educational programs designed to raise community awareness about the impacts of domestic and family violence and promote prevention strategies.

The key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Assessing men for suitability in program participation and case managing each client to ensure the safety of the client and their family
  • Facilitating groups and providing crisis intervention and individual counselling to perpetrators of domestic violence
  • Providing information and support in relation to protection orders court processes and the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act
  • Developing implementing and evaluating training and education programs within the community
  • Developing and maintaining appropriate contact with police solicitors court staff other counsellors and community agencies in the region to facilitate a community response to domestic violence

Work days/hours will be negotiated with the successful applicant however please note that the position holder will be required to work an evening shift which will be between the hours of 9.30am to 8pm up to once a week with some flexibility needed in order to meet business requirements.

About You

The successful applicants will possess below:

  • Undergraduate qualifications in the social or behavioural sciences.
  • Experience working with clients in a group facilitation model and in individual counselling
  • Demonstrated experience working with local networks and agencies using principles of community development.
  • Knowledge of current theory and practice relating to domestic and family violence and a capacity to deliver community education programs.
