Southeastern Louisiana Universitys Counseling Center invites applications for the position of Mental Health Counselor. The Mental Health Counselor reports directly to the Director for the University Counseling Center. This position is in alignment with the mission of the center to meet the campus needs through services. The Mental Health Counselor position provides the most direct services here at the UCC. The Mental Health Counselor also serves the UCC through participating in outreach programs as assigned serving in crisis oncall coverage. Upon full licensure the Mental Health Counselor will serve as a site supervisor to assist in the training aspect of the UCCs Mission.
This position will be responsible will provide mental health counseling and psychotherapy to the University Counseling Center clients Alternate 24hour oncall duty participate in campus outreach programs provide supervision for practicum/internship students once fully licensed
(LPC) Assist departments campuswide with students regarding mental health situations Complete other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree in counseling or a related field from an accredited university (CACREP)
Licensed professional (PLPC or LPC) or eligible for licensure
Mental health counseling/consultation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in providing mental health counseling/consultation
Crisis assessment/intervention experience
Experience in conducting outreach programs
A high degree of personal and professional integrity
A strong sense of ethics and respect for privacy and confidentiality
A strong sense of ethics and respect for privacy and confidentiality.
Provide leadership in meeting the counseling and psychoeducational needs of culturally diverse students.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of current issues in higher education.
Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with Counseling Center staff as well as Southeastern students faculty and staff.
Organizational skills
Proven oral and written communication skills
Effective case conceptualization/management skills
