The College of Liberal Arts at the University of Mississippi invites applications for the position of Instructional Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies. The successful candidate will teach two undergraduate courses in environmental studies per semester including ENVS 101: Introduction to the Environmental Humanities. They will also serve as the program coordinator for the Environmental Studies program. A Ph.D. in Environmental Studies or a related field is required at the time of employment as is a record of excellence in teaching.
The program in Environmental Studies at the University of Mississippi is an interdisciplinary minor with plans to launch a major in the near future. The program draws together faculty from departments across the College of Liberal Arts and its curriculum emphasizes the equal importance of scientific social scientific and humanistic approaches to environmental study. As an Instructional Assistant Professor in the College of Liberal Arts the person in this position will be eligible to apply for promotions to the ranks of Instructional Associate and Instructional Full Professor.
With over 600 faculty members and nearly 6000 students the College of Liberal Arts is the oldest and largest academic division on the campus of the University of Mississippi. The College consists of 18 academic departments and four interdisciplinary centers and it offers 36 majors and 55 minor fields of study spanning the fine and performing arts the humanities the natural sciences and mathematics and the social sciences.
