You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe NATO Defense College (NDC) provides seniorlevel education on transatlantic security issues enabled by research on matters relevant to the Alliance and supported by engagement with several stakeholders.
The Curriculum Planning Branch (CPB) develops the course curriculum and reading material manages lecturers and their presentations as well as plans and conducts study periods. The special nature of the tasks requires an expert with an academic planning background which is only existent in civilian settings.
Principal Duties
The Incumbent supports the academic activities of Academic Plans Policy and Engagements Division (APPED) Courses by devising and implementing academic modules and study periods. S/he also supports the academic activities of the GFOACP (i.e. GFOAC Partner Course) by devising and chairing the different panels and conferences.
Preparing syllabi instructional guides and other course materials including readings scenarios elearning content lecturers biographies and consolidation techniques.
Acting as a moderator during postlecture discussion periods.
Arranging for/hosting lecturers and producing postlecture evaluations and a study period review.
Instructing/briefing other faculty members.
Developing planning and implementing new short courses or academic activities as directed.
Preparing and presenting lectures and briefings on topics included in the syllabus or other topics as required.
Accompanying the NRCC and other Courses attendees on Field Studies when possible.
Providing guidance and advice to Course Members on academic and other matters.
Assisting in the Assessment of Course Members.
Manage as Editor and Coordinator Editor the Partnership RealTime Information Management and Exchange System (ePRIME).
As a Researcher the Incumbent conducts general research and other researchrelated activities related to partnerships including MD/ICI security issues and s/he supports NATO/NDC engagement efforts in this domain which include the following tasks:
Developing a Research agenda on issues that relate to MENA (MD/ICI) region and NATOs policy visvis these regions.
Publishing on issues in relation to the Research agenda.
Assisting in planning supervising and conducting Collegesponsored activities including symposia workshops and meetings conferences and seminars.
Participating in international academic and policy debates on the Research agenda through speaking roles in outside events and nonNDC publications.
Contributing to the Research Divisions publication and editorial processes.
Contributing to NDC educational programs by delivering briefings and lectures in his/her domain of expertise.
Contributing to the Research Divisions development and engagement activities.
Supporting NATO/NDC engagement efforts by conducting academic education and research visits to the region.
Providing Support to the Senior Course in particular through Mentoring Senior Course work (Study Project individual papers).

Previous academic research related to Middle East Mediterranean and Gulf Security.
NRCC or Senior Course at NATO Defense College.

Attributes/Competencies
Personal Attributes: The incumbent must be capable of taking a firm view of all matters regarding research and conferencing must be able to work without supervision and under limited guidance and to express themselves concisely and convincingly in written and oral presentations. Furthermore s/he must be available to work long hours and to travel including short duration deployments away from NATO Defense College.
Managerial Responsibilities: The managerial responsibilities include directing individual research projects as well as preparing and conducting conferences and seminars.
Professional Contacts: The incumbent must have very good relations to NATO authorities and to different international research institutes as well as to individual researchers and officials. S/he should permanently know the progress and the current status of research (papers/articles/lectures) in the various fields of NATOrelated issues.
Contribution to the objectives: The activities in the fields of conferencing and research are a main part of the engagement programme of the NATO Defense College; they are a crucial part of NDCs efforts to transform itself particularly in terms of breadth and scope of the services it provides.
The time allocated to curriculum support accounts for 51 percent of the Faculty Advisor/ Researcher time over the duration of his/her contract versus 49 percent for the time dedicated to research
Security Clearance
The successful applicant will be required to apply for and receive a NATO Secret Security Clearance prior to final confirmation of contract and commencement of employment.
Contract
The successful candidate will be offered a twoyear definite duration contract which may be followed by a further threeyear contract. Employment of research positions shall not be beyond five years duration.

Appointment will be subject to receipt of a security clearance (provided by the national Authorities of the selected candidate) approval of the candidates medical file by the NATO Medical Adviser verification of your study(ies) and work experience and the successful completion of the accreditation and notification process by the relevant authorities.
