    PRIMARY PURPOSE:
    The functions of the Speech Language Pathologist include serving as a member of the
    multidisciplinary team to determine eligibility for Special Education services under the disability
    of speech impairment serving as representative of the Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD)
    committee to develop appropriate Individual Education Programs (IEPs) for students with speech
    impairments and providing instructional speech therapy services to eligible students.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education/Certification:

    TEA Certified Speech Language Pathologist: Holds a Bachelors degree and has a TEA teaching
    certificate. (TEA Certificates for SLPs were discontinued as of August 1996.
    Licensed Speech Language Pathologist: Holds a Bachelors degree may have TEA teaching certificate
    and is licensed by the State Board of Examiners for SpeechLanguage Pathology and Audiology.
    (Individuals with a Bachelors degree were able to obtain a license as long as they had been practicing on or before
    September 1986. A Masters Degree is now required for licensure.
    Licensed Intern: Holds a Masters Degree and is licensed by the State Board of Examiners for
    SpeechLanguage Pathology and Audiology but has not completed a Clinical Fellowship Year requiredfor the Certificate of Clinical Competence (C.C.C..
    Certificate of Clinical Competence Speech Language Pathologist: Holds a Masters Degree holds a
    Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American SpeechLanguage Hearing Association (ASHA)
    and is licensed by the State Board of Examiners for SpeechLanguage Pathology and Audiology.
    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
    Appraisal Management

    Complies with all federal state local and campus policies operating procedures and legalrequirements.
    Reviews follows and maintains evaluative techniques kits manuals etc. as needed.
    Case Management
    Consults with the campus Principal and staff for scheduling of students for speech and languageservices.
    Plans for the implementation of IEP goals and objectives by preparing appropriate instructionalmaterials and planning appropriate instructional activities.
    Implements the IEP goals and objectives as per the most current ARD recommendation.
    Maintains confidentiality of all student information.
    School and Organizational Climate
    Works collaboratively and constructively with colleagues and other professionals towards meetingindividual student needs.
    Promotes and supports environment which is conducive to positive staff morale and directedtowards achievement of the campuses departments and districts mission.
    Professional Growth and Development
    Takes initiative to participate in professional development activities correlated to thechildcentered process with emphasis on speech and language issues in order to keep abreast ofcurrent techniques regulations and to obtain continuing education credits for licensure.
    Researches information to enhance therapeutic methods and/or increased understanding oflowincidenceand/or complex cases.
    Conducts oneself in a professional ethical manner in accordance with generally acceptedcommunity standards and complies with State Board of Examiners for SpeechLanguage Pathology and Audiologycode of Ethics.
    Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
    Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Plans collaboratively with monitors and supervises the Licensed Assistant according to theregulations set forth by the State Board of Examiners for SpeechLanguage Pathology and Audiology.
    Plans collaboratively with monitors and supervises the Licensed Intern according to theregulations set forth by the American SpeechLanguage Hearing Association (ASHA) and State Board ofExaminers for Speech Pathology and Audiology (SBESLPA).
    Supervises TEA Certified Speech Language Pathologists and Licensed Speech Language Pathologistsfor the purpose of SHARS Medicaid billing.
    The supervising SLPs will make all initial contact with each student served by thespeechlanguage pathologist assistant (contact may include evaluation.
    The supervision SLPs must provide the required supervision 9direct and indirect) as required bySBESLPA. Time must be allowed for appropriate training and supervision.
    The supervising SLPs must maintain supervision and performance records that may be requested bythe Board.
    The supervising SLPs are responsible for all student services performed by theassistant.
    The supervising SLPs will review records maintained by the SLPAssistant.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
    Maintain emotional control under stress; regular districtwide travel to multiple work locations as assigned; moderate lifting and carrying; may be required to lift and transfer students to and
    from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities.

    CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS:
    * Supervisors of licensed speechlanguage assistants must be licensed by SBESLPA as speechlanguagepathologists. Licensed SLPs/SLP Assistants are required to obtain continuing education hours tomaintain current
    license status.
