Energetic Materials Junior Engineer

MISSION

Thales Begium (Herstal site) is a world leader in precision guided rocket system for helicopters and jet aircraft and pyrotechnics is one of its key engineering activities. In order to meet its ambitious production and product development roadmap Thales wants to reinforce its technical team and is looking for a junior engineer who wants to develop himself as an energetic materials engineer.

In the framework of its partnership with RMA (Royal Military Academy) you will join during 9 months the RMA ballistic laboratory (Brussels). During this training period with the support of academic professors and researchers you will dedicate yourself halftime to studying and learning the basic theory of energetic materials and halftime to research & development projects in the benefit of Thales.

After this training period you will join the Thales Engineering team in Herstal. As an Energetic Materials Engineer at Thales you will face a wide variety of challenges including all aspects of pyrotechnic from propulsion to detonation initiation and pyrotechnical compositions. You will be responsible for the development design and testing of pyrotechnic systems (motors warheads and fuzes) used in defense applications including their mechanical or electronical sides. You will work closely with customers design office industrial methods production and suppliers to ensure that pyrotechnic systems meet performance safety and quality requirements. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team and will have the opportunity to work on cuttingedge technologies.

RESPONSABILITY

• Develop and improve rocket motor warhead and fuze pyrotechnic products from concept to production from a pyrotechnical but also mechanical point of view
• Work closely with customers to understand their needs and requirements and develop product specifications accordingly
• Specify pyrotechnic requirements to suppliers and manage their development production and quality control
• Conduct testing and evaluation of pyrotechnic products both inhouse and at external test facilities
• Develop and maintain pyrotechnicrelated documentation such FMECA safety reliability analysis
• Support production of inservice pyrotechnic products including resolving quality issues and developing improvements
• Participate in technical reviews: design reviews engineering change boards and failure investigations
• Stay current with industry trends and technological advancements related to energetic materials

PROFILE

• Masters Degree in Engineering Chemistry Physics Mathematics or related field
• Curious to acquire knowledge of energetic materials chemical reactions and manufacturing processes
• Interested in defense domain and weapons development
• Rigorous wellorganized able to give clear followup to projects
• Oriented solution and delivery
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with crossfunctional teams.
• Willing to work crossfunctionally from design to series production in compliance with industrial standards and regulations relating to energetic materials
• Selfmotivated and able to take on challenges
• Knowledge of English (spoken and written) is required
• Knowledge of French (spoken and written) is a plus
