Job Description

Serra Chevrolet Bartlett

Technician hours Monday thru Friday...

Responsibilities

  1. Diagnostics and Troubleshooting

    • Identify mechanical electrical and electronic issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.
    • Interpret error codes from onboard diagnostic systems (OBDII).
  2. Vehicle Repairs

    • Perform repairs on engines transmissions brakes steering suspension and other systems.
    • Replace faulty parts and ensure proper installation.
  3. Routine Maintenance

    • Conduct oil changes tire rotations fluid checks and filter replacements.
    • Inspect and maintain batteries belts hoses and other components.
  4. Customer Interaction

    • Explain vehicle issues and recommended repairs to customers in understandable terms.
    • Provide cost estimates and timelines for repairs.
  5. Compliance and Safety

    • Adhere to safety standards and environmental regulations.
    • Ensure repairs meet manufacturer and industry specifications.
  6. Documentation

    • Maintain accurate records of repairs maintenance and parts used.
    • Update service logs and inspection reports.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Technical Skills

    • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools software and repair equipment.
    • Indepth knowledge of vehicle systems (e.g. engines brakes suspension).
  • ProblemSolving

    • Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electronic problems.
  • Physical Stamina

    • Capable of lifting heavy parts and working in various conditions.
  • Attention to Detail

    • Ensure precision in diagnostics and repairs to avoid repeat issues.
  • Customer Service Skills

    • Ability to communicate effectively with customers about technical issues.

Education and Certification

  • Education

    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Completion of a formal automotive training program (preferred).
  • Certifications

    • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification in specific areas (e.g. brakes engine repair).
    • EPA 609 certification for handling refrigerants (if working on air conditioning systems).

Work Environment

  • Automotive service technicians typically work in:
    • Dealerships.
    • Independent repair shops.
    • Fleet maintenance facilities.
