Job Description

82nd Street Academics seeks parttime Instructors for our afterschool program located in The Renaissance Charter School (TRCS) for theSchool Year. The participants in the program are about 170 students in the 5th to 10th grades. Our Brand Promise to the students will be to equip leaders with the tools to succeed. The goal of our program is to provide the academic and social support needed to help students develop the skills required to successfully complete their secondary and collegiate education. We achieve these goals by providing a holistic program that includes homework assistance art dance cooking Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) activities fitness leadership activities goalsetting and college exploration. This program is funded by the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and is governed by a strong partnership with the host school.

The work hours of this position are Mondays Friday 2:30 pm 6:00 pm. There are biweekly meetings and professional developments that may occur outside of these hours.

Pay rate: $18.00 $19.00 per hour depending on previous experience and related education.

Major Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership on a daytoday basis for a class of 1015 middle school students and maintain student retention whether instruction is remotely or inperson. Instructors are representatives of our agency in the school and are responsible for maintaining the culture of the school in the afternoon.
  • Create lesson plans in advance of implementation ensuring that they are age appropriate and coincide with the goals of the program and our stakeholders. Much of our planning is based on college exploration STEM and socialemotional learning activities. Staff will work as a team to provide activities and experiences that increase students awareness of both the high school and college application process and what options are available to them. We will work together to promote a collegeattending environment among students as well as support them in increasing their socialemotional and selfawareness.
  • Adhere to all protocols to deliver remote and/or inperson instruction effectively to maintain a safe environment for all. Cleaning student materials at the start and finish of your shift is required.
  • Instructors are a role model for our students. Everyone on our team must be outstanding in adhering to remote and inperson policies on attendance and punctuality dress code and setting a tone of respect in interactions with students colleagues parents and TRCS staff members.
  • Communicate with parents when there is a concern that must be resolved and provide excellent customer service and a professional caring demeanor inperson by phone or by email.
  • Be flexible and able to adapt to lastminute changes considering current daytoday changes.
Education and Experience:

  • Study plan toward college graduation with a BA (minimum).
  • At least one year of experience working with the SchoolAge group in a professional setting (Middle School/High School preferred).
  • Commitment to the program through the end of June is a nonnegotiable requirement.
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English.
Demonstrated Abilities:

  • Knowledge of best practices in working with children in an extracurricular setting.
  • Strong communication abilities in oneonone meetings and in group settings.
  • Takes personal accountability for the program outcomes and takes initiative to implement positive change in the face of challenges.
